2008 Queens of Heart Team Features Teri Hatcher and Clonie Gowen
- Lance Bradley | May 19, 2008 at 7:24 pm
The World Series of Poker’s $1,000 buy-in No Limit Hold’em Ladies World Championship continues to grow by leaps and bounds. Last year 1,286 players made for the largest field ever in the event and if the all-star team announced today by the Queens of Heart is any indication, 2008 will be the biggest year ever for the female-only event.
The Queens of Heart team, now entering its third year aligned with the WSOP, is comprised of celebrities and top poker professionals and helps raise funds for the Nevada Cancer Institute. This year’s team will include Desperate Housewives star Teri Hatcher, Cheryl Hines, Joely Fisher and country music recording artist Mindy McCready. Joining the celebrities will be Pamela Brunson, daughter of Doyle Brunson, Clonie Gowen, Barbara Enright and last year’s champion Sally Ann Boyer.
“This event has grown remarkably over the last five years and is now one of the most anticipated events of the 55-event World Series of Poker,” said Jeffrey Pollack, WSOP commissioner. “With leadership from the Queens of Heart for the third year in a row, we’re confident the atmosphere and play will be fun and exciting.”
The Queens of Heart team competes during the Ladies No Limit Championship event, in order to raise awareness and contributions for women’s health issues and more than $10,000 has already been provided to Nevada Cancer Institute from this year’s team members.
Celebrity author Jackie Collins will not play in the tournament, but serve as the honorary captain and be on hand to officially start the event.
