A.M. SCRAMBLE: WSOP Logo Rules, Grinder Gets Front Page and Ungar Haunting Hotel
- Lance Bradley | October 28, 2010
The World Series – the baseball one – started last night. The BLUFF office in Atlanta is cheering for the San Francisco Giants. Why? Well, BLUFF Co-Prez Eric Morris is from the Bay Area and loves him some San Francisco Giants. The orange and black winning the World Series would make him happy, and a happy boss is way more likely to buy lunch for everybody on Friday. HINT HINT.\
Harrah’s Plans on Enforcing Main Event Logo Rules – Sorry Full Tilt
“These guys have had ample time to find a replacement company to represent them. We know they’re in high demand or simply to figure out who is going to go patchless. We hate to make this the focus, we’re glad that nearly everybody that participates at this final table has the opportunity to have an increased sponsorship agreement,” said Stewart. ”We know tournament poker is a tough racket, and encourage that, but our rules are clear. We’ve spoken with all the players and we don’t expect any problems or funny business or any new logos or creative affiliate site.”
Some in the poker media have speculated that as Full Tilt patched players are eliminated they may simply put the patches on players still alive. Unfortunately, that’s against another rule that says no player can add a patch once filming has begun. Stewart added, “”We will absolutely enforce the tournament rules, we don’t foresee a problem. We respect each individual’s right to be an individual businessman, but at the same time our rules are in place for a reason. You will absolutely see only three from each individual sponsor at the table.”
Drug Addict Who Robbed Jason Potter Has His Sentence Upheld
In January 2008 Jason “JP OSU” Potter had himself a good day. The American poker pro finished 31st in the Aussie Millions Main Event for $30,000 AUD. Things went downhill from there. Potter cashed out and left the Crown Casino only to be struck over the head by an attacker and robbed of said $30,000.
Thankfully the caught the douchebag and he was sentenced to four years. This is a guy with 69 previous convictions. And a drug habit. Dwayne Johnstone – or his lawyers – decided that his sentence was too harsh and decided to appeal on the grounds that the sentence was too high because “it failed to take into account a brain injury he received from an earlier assault and his depression”. He was on parole at the time of the robbery after robbing a convenience store.
Thankfully the judge presiding over the case isn’t a softy and decided to deny the appeal. Yay for justice!

Grinder Gets Front Page Treatment in Sun Sentinel
Jeez, isn’t two BLUFF covers in one year enough for Michael “the Grinder” Mizrachi? Now the Florida poker pro and sentimental favorite for the November Nine is on the front page of the South Florida Sun Sentinel along with his twin brother Eric and his mom, Susan Laufer Mizrachi.
The story, by Nick Sortal, details the Grinder’s life growing up and the storyline ESPN ran with as all four Mizrachi brothers cashed in the Main Event. The full article is a good read and gets into how the Grinder and his brothers came to be poker players. Read the full story here.
Rumor: Stu Ungar is Haunting an Old Las Vegas Hotel
Ghost Adventures, a reality show on the Travel Channel that investigates scary or haunted places is planning a trip to Las Vegas. They’re not disclosing their point of interest but in an interview with LasVegasWeekly.com Zak Bagans, lead investigator on the show, hinted it might have a poker connection.
“The Oasis Motel on Las Vegas Boulevard we heard was extremely active. Stu Ungar the poker player committed suicide there and also an actor [David Strickland]. We’ve been trying to gain access to do an investigation there, too,” said Bagans.
To be fair, Ungar did in fact die in Room #6 but he didn’t commit suicide. His death was ruled to be a result of a heart condition that was most likely caused by his well-documented drug abuse. November 22 will mark the 12-year anniversary of the death of the the three-time WSOP Main Event champion.
