Another Day, Another $1.2M For Phil Ivey
- Jason Kirk | March 5, 2009
Phil Ivey notched his second million-dollar day in as many weeks on the high stakes tables at Full Tilt Poker Wednesday night.
Ivey’s $1.2 million run came at the $500/$1,000 heads-up half Pot Limit Omaha and half Pot Limit Hold’em tables, the scene of his million-dollar day against LarsLuzak and durrrr just last week.
Ivey’s biggest pot came courtesy of Ziigmund in a round of three-handed PLO. Ziigmund opened for $3,500 on the button with $300,000 behind. LarsLuzak called in the small blind before Ivey reraised to $14,000 from the big blind, leaving himself another $189,000. Both players called and saw a flop of Q

. LarsLuzak checked the flop but Ivey bet $34,000 into the $42,000 pot. Only Ziigmund stuck around, but he and Ivey both checked when the turn card was the 8
. When the 5
fell on the river, Ivey led out for $103,000 - two-thirds of his remaining stack - into a pot already worth $110,000. Ziigmund made the call, but the Finn mucked his hand when Ivey showed A

for the jack-high straight flush and dragged the pot worth $315,999.
The game was heads-up Pot Limit Hold’em when Ivey dragged his next largest pot, this time against LarsLuzak. With just over $426,000 in his stack, Ivey opened on the button for $3,000. LarsLuzak called, leaving himself another $289,000 behind, and then check-called a $4,000 bet from Ivey on the J

flop. The turn brought the 2
, and this time LarsLuzak elected to check-raise Ivey’s $12,000 bet to $38,400. Ivey made the call and the river card was the 7
. LarsLuzak bet pot for $78,500 on the river with K

for a busted straight draw, but Ivey found the call with J

for top pair and a $247,800 pot.
Ziigmund was the victim once again in another PLO pot, this time surrendering his whole $100,000 stack to Ivey in a heads-up confrontation. Ziigmund opened for $3,000 on the button and then called when Ivey reraised to $9,000. When the flop came down K

turn, only to find he was drawing to a single out: his 8

All told, Ivey finished the day up over $1.2 million.
