Aussie Millions: Brett Watson Dominates Main Event Day 1a
- Lance Bradley | January 22, 2012
The 2012 Aussie Millions Main Event kicked off Sunday in Melbourne and things could not have gone better for Brett Watson. The Australian bagged up 257,400 chips at the end of the night and finds himself more than 80,000 clear of his closest competitor.
The closest players to Watson are Paul Sing and Benjamin Jenkins, who finished with 177,100 and 154,500 respectively. A total of 68 players survived the seven levels of play including former winner Lee Nelson, WSOPE bracelet winners Andrew Hinrichsen and Phillipe Boucher, Maria Ho, David Vamplew and Michael Tureniec.
There were a number of notable names in the 84 players who busted out on Day 1. Faraz Jaka, Dan Kelly, Eoghan O’Dea, Patrik Antonius, Barry Greenstein, Jeff Lisandro, Matt Jarvis, Terrence Chan and Sam Holden all saw their run at the title come to a quick stop on Day 1a.
The average chip stack is just over 67,000. The 153 players on Day 1a is 35% drop over the same day in 2011 but tournament organizers still hope to get close to the 721-player field of 2011.
