Barney Frank Plans to Introduce Bill to Repeal UIGEA

U.S Rep. Barney Frank, chairman of the House financial services committee, told reporters yesterday that he plans to introduce legislation in the next two weeks seeking to repeal the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, but that he will wait for more support before moving the bill forward.

“The first thing is to plant the banner out there and see how many people rally around it,” Frank said.

Despite pleas by online poker lobbyists, Frank said he will not seek an exemption for online poker and that he would not make any distinction between poker and other forms of online gambling.
