The concept of a home-court advantage is something you hear about in a lot of sports, but it doesn’t often come up when talking about poker. Nonetheless, there are still players who simply seem to fare better at one particular casino over the rest. One such example is poker player and ESPN Inside Deal host Bernard Lee and the Foxwoods Resort and Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut.

Therefore, it only makes sense that Lee has been named the official spokesman for the New England casino.  The New England-based poker personality has been frequenting Foxwoods since its opening in 1992 and all of his tournament victories have come during the casino’s World Poker Finals. The tournament series runs every fall and each year Lee has turned up for the festivities. In 2006, Lee won a $5,000 buy-in preliminary event for almost $370,000. In 2007, Lee logged his second win in a $2,000 No Limit Hold’em event and racked up another $239,143. As if that weren’t enough, Lee went for the threepeat in 2008, winning a $600 Shootout tournament for $22,893. Lee has over $1.3 million in career tournament winnings.

“Bernard Lee was a clear choice for Foxwoods Resort Casino,” Foxwoods Poker Director Terry Chiaradio explained. “Not only is he an accomplished poker player, but also a top poker media personality.” For the next two years, Lee will be sporting Foxwoods logos when he plays in live poker tournaments around the world and the casino will also serve as the headline sponsor for Lee’s poker-themed radio show, The Bernard Lee Poke show, which airs locally in Boston and internationally as part of Rounders Radio.

“If there is such a thing as home-court advantage in poker, for me it’s at Foxwoods,” said Lee. “I’m proud and humbled that Foxwoods would choose me to be their official spokesperson among the millions of poker players in the world.”

This is not the first time a poker pro and a brick and mortar casino have teamed up with one another. Daniel Negreanu had a similar deal with the Wynn Casino in 2005 and Michael “The Grinder” Mizrachi signed with Planet Hollywood’s poker room in 2007. Even  Foxwoods has previously experimented with sponsoring poker personalities. Last fall, model and poker player Christina Lindley served as the casino’s official spokesmodel during the 2009 World Poker Finals.
