BLUFF Reader’s Choice Awards: And The Winners Are …

At the beginning of December BLUFF announced the nominees for the Sixth Annual BLUFF Magazine Reader’s Choice Awards and asked poker fans around the world to have their say. Now, after a record number of readers chimed in, the votes have been tallied and the results are in.

“The BLUFF Reader’s Choice Awards continue to grow each year,” said Editor in Chief Lance Bradley. “In total nearly 9,500 poker fans took the time to have their voice heard. Next year we’re aiming for even more votes.”

BLUFF would like to thank everybody who voted this year.

Here are the winners from the 14 categories:

Favorite Poker Announcer
Winner: Joe Stapleton, The PokerStars.net Big Game

Up against a the likes of established announcers in Mike Sexton, Gabe Kaplan, Ali Nejad and Norman Chad, Joe Stapleton, the new kid on the block in this field, edged out Kaplan by less than 1% to claim the RCA.

Favorite Poker Hostess
Winner: Amanda Leatherman, The PokerStars.net Big Game

This one wasn’t really that close and resulted in a second RCA for The PokerStars.net Big Game. Amanda Leatherman rocketed to the top with 42.5% of the votes in this category. Her closest competitor was High Stakes Poker’s Kara Scott who grabbed 28.6%. The other three nominees only managed 28.9% of the votes combined.

Favorite Poker TV Show
Winner: High Stakes Poker, GSN

Despite The PokerStars.net Big Game’s Leatherman and Stapleton taking home the first two awards it was the original televised cash game that reader’s tabbed as their favorite poker TV show. High Stakes Poker secured 42.8% of the votes while The PokerStars.net Big Game finished runner-up with 24.4%. The WSOP on ESPN, which saw a decline in viewership in 2010, finished third with 20% of the votes.

Favorite Web-based Poker Show
Winner: The Poker Beat, PokerRoad.com

You can call it a repeat. Sort of. Last year’s winner for Best Poker Podcast, a category which no longer exists, grabbed the RCA for Best Web-based Poker Show with 31.7% of the votes. Finishing second was the TwoPlusTwo Pokercast with 28.3%.

Favorite Poker Blog
Winner: WickedChopsPoker.com

The first genuine repeat winner. WickedChopsPoker ran away with this one again this year with 45.5% of the vote. Coming in a distant second was Dr. Pauly’s Tao of Poker with 20%. The newcomer in the category, Hard-Boiled Poker, was just behind Pauly with 18.5%.

Favorite Poker Forum
Winner: TwoPlusTwo.com

This was the least competitive category for the second year running as forum giant TwoPlusTwo.com grabbed 57.7% of the total votes. Coming in a very distant second place was BluffMagazine.com with 22.7%. TwoPlusTwo.com has now taken home this category every year its been part of the BLUFF RCA.

Funniest Poker Twitter
Winner: Doyle Brunson, @TexDolly

The Godfather of Poker isn’t afraid to fire off a blonde joke or two or take other pros to task on his Twitter feed. Erik Seidel was the runner-up with 22.8% of the total votes, well behind the 39.6% who voted for Brunson.

Favorite Online Poker Site
Winner: PokerStars.com

This one was essentially a two-horse race with PokerStars narrowly edging out Full Tilt Poker. The two sites making up nearly 95% of the total votes. PokerStars actually garnered 51% of the votes to the 43.5% for Full Tilt Poker making it one of the widest margins of victory this year.

Favorite Online Poker Resource
Winner: PokerTableRatings.com

This one could be considered a bit of an upset. PokerTableRatings.com, which provides data and statistics on online cash game action, grabbed 24.7% of the votes while CardRunners.com, the reigning champ in the category, narrowly missed out on a repeat performance with 22.7%.

Favorite Las Vegas Poker Room
Winner: Bellagio

The Bellagio continues to dominate this category, winning for the fourth year in a row. With 49% of the vote the home to Bobby’s Room proved once again to be a favorite with poker players. Finishing second was The Venetian with 20% of the vote. Newcomer ARIA finished third with 15.1% of the vote.

Favorite East Coast Poker Room
Winner: The Borgata

While the final tally ended up being a little closer than the Las Vegas category The Borgata was still an overwhelming winner in this category. Taking 42.4% of the vote the Atlantic City property beat out runner-up Foxwoods Resort Casino by 13.4%.

Favorite California Poker Room
Winner: The Commerce

The Commerce Casino and the Bicycle Casino in Los Angeles basically made this a two-horse race with the Commerce winning by a nose. With 37.2% of the votes The Commerce grabbed 7.1% more than the Bicycle Casino.

Breakout Performance of the Year
Winner: Daniel “Jungleman12″ Cates

A year ago nobody really knew much about online poker player “Jungleman12″. Now, after making his way into the high stakes online games, everybody knows who Daniel Cates is. So much so that he ran away with this category grabbing 46.8% of the votes. Finishing as runner-up, Frank Kassela had 21.8%.

Favorite Moment of 2010
Winner: Phil Ivey Wins 8th WSOP Bracelet

The most hotly contest category this year pitted Phil Ivey against Tom Dwan, Michael Mizrachi and Annie Duke. Phil Ivey’s 8th WSOP bracelet win squeaked out a narrow victory with 34.3% of the votes. Tom Dwan’s near miss performance at the WSOP managed to come second again with 31.3% and Michael “the Grinder” Mizrachi winning the $50,000 Players’ Championship grabbed 28.6%.
