Bodog Resumes Business Under Bodog.com Domain
- Jason Kirk | June 11, 2009
Online poker room Bodog is once again doing business under the Bodog.com domain name.
The valuable domain name had been the subject of dispute between Bodog and 1st Technology that resulted in Bodog losing ownership of the domain in August 2007. After trying out the domain NewBodog.com, Bodog’s permanent business finally landed at BodogLife.com - but the company never gave up trying to get its original domain back.
“These problems are the direct result of a dispute over the ownership of the Bodog.com domain name,” Calvin Ayre, then CEO of Bodog, said in a press release at the time of the. “We are fighting this dispute and are confident that we will win.”
But Ayre, who consistently referred to 1st Technology CEO Scott Lewis as a “patent troll,” would not see the return of his company’s domain during his tenure as CEO. Instead, the settlement that returned ownership of the domain to Bodog came under the leadership of Alwyn Morris, Chief Executive for the Morris Mohawk Gaming Group, the exclusive licensee of the “Bodog” brand for online gaming services in the United States.
As of today, June 11th, the settlement is complete and Bodog’s business is back under the original domain.
“It is with great pride that Morris Mohawk Gaming Group announces the official return of Bodog.com,” the company noted today in a release. “Bodog would like to thank all of its loyal followers and players for the great loyalty they’ve shown all these years.”
