Brandon Cantu Leads Final Table at World Poker Tour Bay 101 Event
- Lance Bradley | March 14, 2008
After four days of play in San Jose, California Brandon Cantu has a commanding chip lead at the World Poker Tour Bay 101 Shooting Stars event.
Unlike other WPT events the penultimate day is played six-handed until reaching the final six players. The short-handed action played right into the hands of Cantu who will head into the final table of six players with 3.23M in chips.
The World Series of Poker bracelet winner was aggressive throughout the third day of play and with eight players left he took down 17 pots in a row.
Cantu’s aggressive play helped him collect five bounties for eliminating players deemed ‘Shooting Stars’. His most dramatic bounty came on the TV table bubble as his set of aces eliminated J.C. Tran who held a set of kings. Each bounty is worth $5,000.
Sitting second in chips is Mike Baker with 1.96M. Baker actually began the day as chip leader. Noah Jefferson is third in chips with 842,000. In fourth place is the only ‘Shooting Star’ remaining, Jennifer Harman, who sits fourth with 541,000 in chips. Steve Sung sits in fifth position with 474,000 while John ‘Razor’ Phan is the short stack at 374,000.
First place is $1 Million plus a seat in the WPT World Championship event in April. Play resumes Friday at 7pm Eastern.
