Brandon Cantu Wins World Poker Tour Bay 101 Shooting Stars

The World Poker Tour has created yet another millionaire. Through five days of play at the Bay 101 Shooting Stars event Brandon Cantu was the most aggressive player and his aggression paid off early Saturday morning as he took home the $1 Million first place prize.
Cantu entered the final table with a substantial chip lead and never relented as the World Series of Poker bracelet winner chased down his first WPT title. The first player to bust-out was John Phan who started the final with the shortest stack.

One key to Cantu’s success at the final table was the elimination of his closest competitor, Mike Baker, in the early part of the night in fifth position. From that point it was smooth sailing for Cantu as he held nearly 75% of the chips in the play.

Shortly after that Steve Sung eliminated Noah Jefferson in fourth place to get action three handed with Cantu and Jennifer Harman.

Cantu eliminated Harman, the only Shooting Star left, by flopping a set of nines against Harman’s pair of kings. Cantu and Sung played heads-up but on the final hand Cantu’s pocket fours were well ahead of Sung’s pocket threes

Sung earned $585,000 for his second place finish and pushed his career earnings to over $1 Million.

On top of the $1 Million first place money Cantu also collected $30,000 in bounties for eliminating six Shooting Stars over the duration of the tournament.
