By The Numbers: WPT Lucky Hearts Poker Open

The poker world is full of facts, figures, stats and records. With so many numbers being crunched day in and day out, sometimes it is tough to see what they all add up to. That is why BLUFF brings you some of the more interesting numbers related to the big tournaments, big stories, and big personalities in the poker world. Some are factual, some are fun, some are both. In this edition, we’ll take a look at the latest WPT event in Florida, the Lucky Hearts Poker Open, by the numbers:

2 Number of hands played during hand-for-hand action on the 27-person money bubble in the Main Event.  Day 3 was supposed to be a long one, as the field played from 34 players down to six, passing both the money and final table bubbles along the way.  It should have taken all day, instead it took less than nine hours.  The money bubble barely lasted five minutes, as Fred Goldberg ran A-K into aces on the second hand of hand-for-hand action.

3 Number of WPT television personalities in the livestreaming commentary booth.  Once again, Raw Deal correspondent Tony Dunst and WPT Ones to Watch Dan O’Brien were on hand to commentate the action.  WPT enthusiasts got an extra treat though as they were joined by Poker Hall of Famer Mike Sexton, who took a more relaxed approach to the streaming commentary as compared to the TV show.

5 Number of players in a hand at the six-handed final table.  The table played more passively than other WPT final table with a lot of limping in and multi-way pots.  The most notable pot was a five-handed showdown where only sixth place finisher Keith Ferrera folded preflop.

6 Number of days Lucky Hearts Gigi Gagne knew her boyfriend and potential fiance when she made the final table.  Gagne said her boyfriend gave her a pendant before the tournament began and that it would bring her good luck.  According to Gagne, she tried to give the pendant back on a couple of occasions, but he refused.  She held on to it and got lucky in poker and lucky in love this week in Florida.

11 Circuit designation for Florida in the federal court system. Noah Schwartz was scheduled to appear for federal jury duty in his hometown of Miami n Day 3 of play.  He played the event knowing jury duty loomed on the horizon, but that it would take a deep run to get to Day 3 in the first place.  Thankfully for Schwartz, he both made it to Day 3 and made it on the standby list for jury duty and was not required to come down to the 11th Circuit district courthouse.

35 Average number of hands per hour at the final table.  This final table came within striking distance of breaking the 2009 Bay 101 record for longest final table in WPT history at 319 hands.  While it took 12 and a half hours to play that much in San Jose, this group managed to play 302 hands in less than nine hours.  That averages out to less than two minutes on each hand, but when you consider the field took two fifteen-minute break, one short five minute break, and one extended dinner break that lasted around 20 minute, the actual average is likely closer to 39 hands her hour.

40 Approximate number of re-entries in the $3,500 re-entry event.  Typically 30% of the Day 1A field that busts opts to re-enter.  There was a higher percentage of re-entries than usual at Seminole though.  There were 83 Day 1A eliminations, which means roughly 50% of the eliminated Day 1A field opted to re-enter.

100 Percent of WPT final tables in Florida that featured a woman in the line-up.  There have only been three WPT events in Florida so far, but every single one of them had a woman in the final six.  Abbey Daniels finished fourth at the Seminole Hard Rock Showdown last April, Lisa Hamilton took third at WPT Jacksonville back in November, and Gigi Gagne finished as the runner-up at Lucky Hearts.  Gagne was one of only five female entrants in the field and is only the fifth woman to get to heads-up play in a WPT event, along with JJ Liu, Kathy Liebert, Almira Sckripchenko, and Cecilia Pescaglini.

272 Number of followers of the @FakeCharder30 Twitter account. Lucky Hearts winner Matt Juttelstad is a good friend of Christian Harder’s and started the spoof Twitter account.  Shortly after Juttelstad’s victory, the account Tweeted, “WPT Title scoreboard….@Fakecharder30 1, @Realcharder30 0. Who’s the “fake” Charder30 now?”

718,000 Number of chips in short stack Todd Jacobson’s stack at the start of final table play.  Those chips equated to 60 big blinds when play began at 6,000/12,000 ante 2,000.  The whole table was playing extraordinarily deep with an average stack of 123 big blinds.  Start of day chip leader Gigi Gagne began the day began the day with 226 big blinds.  By comparison, start of day chip leader Soi Nguyen began the Five Diamond final table at Bellagio with 83 big blinds.
