Poker player Carter King can't be seen in this photo of Michael Phelps, but his bong can be.

Carter “ckingusc” King, who won the 2008 World Championship of Online Poker Main Event, is now facing a charge of marijuana possession as a result of the fallout from the now infamous photo of fourteen-time Olympic gold medal winner Michael Phelps smoking from a bong.

King wasn’t at the party that night, but by his own admission, that was his bong that Phelps was using. In a thread on 2+2 entitled “Michael Phelps is one of us!” King comes clean:

“thats funny cause thats my house my bong and my computer in the background and the only thing that story got right was that its him in the picture.

Phelps has admitted to being a part-time poker player and in October he made the final table of a preliminary event at the 2008 Caesars Palace Classic. The charges against King are not directly related to the party that Phelps attended last November, but are a result of an investigation by the Richland Country Sheriff after the photo surfaced. Authorities were looking into whether or not any charges could be pressed against Phelps or anybody at the party. The subsequent execution of search warrants netted “green plant material” and the charges were then laid.

In a later thread on 2+2, “Was ckingusc arrested? Did he try selling his bong on EBAY” the 23-year-old poker pro responds to rumors he attempted to make a quick buck by selling the bong on ebay:

“were u dropped on your head as a child or are u intentionally being dense? Either way they should be closing the case vs mike. As far as the charges vs me i cant speak about but the penalties will be very minimal. This entire thing has basically proven to me that you cannot trust the media or the police if you stand in the way of their interest.

also fwiw, no i am not dumb enough to actually try and sell a bong on ebay”

Phelps will not be charged with anything but the impact his career has included a three month suspension from USA Swimming and the loss of a Kellogg’s endorsement deal.
