Clonie Gowen Triumphs On Full Tilt
- BLUFF Staff | January 3, 2007
Bluff Magazine columnist Clonie Gowen beat a field of more than 1,800 players last night to win Full Tilt Poker’s largest daily tournament.
The tournament is a $24 + $2 buy-in at 10 PM ET, and it is by far Full Tilt’s biggest regular tournament, drawing between 1300 and 1800 players every night.
Last night the tournament started with 1,835 players and, as always on Full Tilt Poker, Clonie was playing with a bounty on her head.
Despite being the only Full Tilt pro in the tournament, Clonie managed to dodge all the bullets and bounty hunters to start the final table 2nd in chips.
Gowen maintained her stack well until the table was four-handed, at which point she began to take control.
Clonie raised and re-raised her way to a big chip lead before calling an all-in bet with pocket nines and hitting a two-outer versus her opponents pocket Queens.
Gowen started the heads-up match with 2.2 million chips and a big lead on her opponent, Edmoney111, who had around 600,000.
On the third hand of heads-up action Clonie re-raised all-in before the flop with K-10 and Edmoney111 called with A-6. Edmoney111’s Ace held up and the stacks were drawn close to even at around 1.4 million each.
Clonie continued her aggressive play and beat Edmoney111 back down to around 1 million chips before giving it all back, and more, when she pushed all-in from the button with 8-5 offsuit and lost to Edmoney111’s A-9.
Clonie was looking at a 2:1 chip defecit after the hand, and she continued to leak chips until she was under 500,000 to Edmoney111’s almost 2.3 million.
Clonie continued to play aggressive and smart, however, and doubled up after making a great pre-flop call for all of her chips with K-5 vs. J-10.
She doubled up again with pocket tens vs. K-9 to reclaim the chip lead, and she soon had Edmoney111 back on the ropes with around 500,000 chips.
After almost 6 hours of play and 34 hands of heads-up action, Clonie opened from the button for all of her chips. Edmoney111 called with a modest Q-8, but found himself in terrific shape against Clonie’s Q-4 suited. Luck was on Clonie’s side, however, as she hit two fours to make a full house to eliminate Edmoney111 and claim the $8,147 first place prize.
No word on whether Clonie gets to keep the $24 bounty and the “I busted Clonie Gowen” t-shirt.
Congratulations Clonie!
