Phil Ivey Wins the LA Poker Classic

What was slated as one of the most exciting WPT Final Tables certainly did not dissapoint. With both Phil Ivey and Phil Hellmuth making a run at their first WPT titles, it could only be one of the Phil’s who was able to make history. Phil Hellmuth got off to a bad start, dropping a significant amount of chips before the first break, and it was only a matter of time before he would either have to double up or go home. Hellmuth moved all-in on the short stack with A-9 only to be called by Charles Moore, whose A-Q held up and sent Hellmuth home in 6th place.

After Hellmuth’s elimination, action became fast and furious. Ivey busted Nam Le when his pocket threes were best against Le’s Aces, after Ivey hit a miracle river card. Phil then went on to steamroll when he busted Charles Moore when the players got all in on the turn, Ivey holding two pair, and Moore an open-ended straight draw. The river was a safe one for Ivey, which left him heads up with Quinn Do for his first career WPT title.

With a massive chip lead going into heads-up play, it wasnt long before Ivey nailed the final nail in the coffin. His turned full house, with A-8 would have Do drawing dead on the turn. The win was good for over $1.5 Million, and bumped Ivey’s career tourmanet winnings to $8.7 Million.

Phil Ivey and Phil Hellmuth Square off at todays LAPC Final Table

Coming into the Final 18, poker fans were thrilled at the thought of a monumental final table. Who wouldnt want the chance to see Phil Ivey and Phil Hellmuth battle at a WPT final table, both looking for their first WPT title. Well, all of our wishes came true. The final table is stacked at this years LA Poker Classic. Phil Ivey leads the was with over $4 Million in chips. He was able to obtain a large chunk of them when he and Phil Hellmuth got all their chips in the center, Ivey holding two Aces and Hellmuth A-K suited. The hand put Hellmuth in danger, but he was able to hang on and when he eliminated Wei Kai Chang in 7th place, Hellmuth is sitting comfortably in third place with over $2 Million in chips. The table also features Nam Le, the short stack, who is the only WPT Champion of the elite group.

The days action saw a lot of ups and downs, as all of the players were eager to make it to the final table of such a large event. Jennifer Tilly, who may have been a fan favorite, had a rough day. Her final bow took place at the hands of Phil Hellmuth when she made a move with 10c-7c only to be called by Hellmuth’s K-Q. The King high held and Tilly was eliminated in 12th place, becoming the highest finishing celeb in a WPT event.

Play resumes tomorrow at 5PM PST, and we which Phil will rule the day.

Here is the seating assigments and chip counts for tomorrows Final Table:

Seat 1. Quinn Do - 1,450,000
Seat 2. Nam Le - 1,180,000
Seat 3. Phil Hellmuth - 2,380,000
Seat 4. Phil Ivey - 4,100,000

PlayersOnly VIP Million Dollar Freeroll

This week, PlayersOnlyVIP.com players are winning their way to Saturday’s monthly final in the site’s richest poker tournament ever, the Million Dollar Free Roll series. A player that came close to taking it all last month hopes to win the $75,000 first prize this weekend.

“Just get this over with” moaned one of the other players at last month’s Final Table as the tournament’s eventual winner was dealt a pair of Queens. The hand began a series of winning hands that won “TylerC” the monthly championship and $75,000. But PlayersOnlyVIP.com player “Swancott21″, a college student from New York, didn’t give it up easy and held his own until the bitter end.

“I’d win a hand,” said the second place player who was happy with his $10,000 second place, “Then he’d win five hands. Then I’d win a nice pot - and he’d win the next three.”

The rookie player surprised some when he went all in on a 10-7. “What can I say,” he said later, “10-7 anything is my favourite hand.”

“Fastest final table I’ve ever seen” said another player when “Swanscott21″ was dealt 4h8s and forced to fold moments into the final hand.

As part of the fastest growing poker network, PlayersOnlyVIP attracts a healthy mix of new and inexperienced poker players.

“Some of the guys on the network are pretty hard core poker players. I’m just a little fish from PlayersOnlyVIP that got lucky and almost won last month,” said the surprised near-winner. “I’ve won my way to the final table again this month but let’s be realistic - let’s just say if I don’t get eliminated too quick I’ll be happy!”

Free roll tournaments bring out all kinds of recreational players,” said David Anderson, manager of PlayersOnlyVIP.com. “All you’ve ever got to lose is your tournament entry fee so the pressure’s off. If you win your seat in a qualifier during the week, well, then you have nothing at all to lose!”

The first place player on Saturday will walk away with $75,000 but 29 others will also win cash prizes from $100 - $10,000 for a total of $100,000 this month and every month. The ten-month series will award a total of $1,000,000.

Scott Lewis And 1st Technology, LLC Barking Up Bodog’s Tree

  • | February 25, 2008

St. John’s, Antigua - Recent reports indicate that Scott Lewis and 1st Technology, LLC (”1st Tech”) have increased their use of scare tactics in their case against a domain management company which, at one time, provided their services to Bodog, by targeting advertisers that work in conjunction with Bodog with subpoenas.  Unfortunately for Scott Lewis and 1st Tech, as previously established on several occasions, Bodog and its former domain management service provider (now known as “Data Entry and Domain Management, S.A.”) are entirely separate companies, one simply having provided services to the other. At no time did Data Entry and Domain Management, S.A. have a corporate relationship with Bodog. As such, no amount of subpoenas sought from companies that work in conjunction with Bodog will be of any use in 1st Tech’s frivolous patent dispute.

As is clearly stated by the Antigua Gaming Commission, Bodog (now www.Bodoglife.com on the Internet) has been based in Antigua since fall 2006 and had been previously operating there under a license that was obtained when purchased from BetWWTS. Shortly thereafter, Bodog obtained its own license from the Antigua Gaming Commission, months prior to 1st Tech receiving a default judgment against Bodog’s former independent domain management service provider.

The Bodoglife.com domain was established shortly after the original Bodog domain was lost and has never received redirects from Bodog.com. The Bodoglife.com domain is no way connected with 1st Tech’s case and it stretches credulity for 1st Tech to claim that relationships between Bodog and its suppliers in relation to this domain could be in any way relevant to 1st Tech’s effort to collect its questionable default judgment from an independent, defunct, and essentially insolvent ex-service provider. No subpoena that is targeted at anything to do with Bodog.com should affect Bodoglife.com or .net advertising relationships.

Bodog’s former domain management service provider is and has always been based in Costa Rica (not Antigua) and has only ever provided Bodog with domain management and data entry services. Bodog did at one time allow the domain management service to use the Bodog name to make their domain management work for Bodog easier, but that is no longer and will never again be the case.

“The company targeted by Scott Lewis and 1st Tech in the patent dispute is not and has never been Bodog,” says Bodog Founder Calvin Ayre. “The company itself has been asset-less since long before litigation even began. No amount of subpoenas issued on the part of Scott Lewis and 1st Tech will make the wrong company the right company or put assets into an asset-less company. At this point they’re just chasing shadows.”

For the latest Patent Troll coverage from Calvin Ayre’s blog, please see www.calvinayrelife.com/digital-entertainment/patent-dispute-setting-the-record-straight-again.html. For ongoing coverage of the patent dispute with Scott Lewis and 1st Tech, visit www.calvinayrelife.com.

About Bodog

Poker After Dark: International Week

By: Dennis Oehring

The

first edition of International Week on NBC’s Poker After Dark was a great match,

with Patrik Antonius eventually defeating Brad Booth to claim the victory after

the longest heads-up battle in the show’s history. Representing his homeland Finland, Antonius returns to

defend his title this week against five other highly skilled pros born outside

of the United States in Johnny Chan (China), Roland de Wolfe (England), Daniel

Negreanu (Canada), Gus Hansen (Denmark), and John Juanda (Indonesia). Each player will put up $20,000 and

compete for the $120,000 winner-take-all first prize.

Antonius

is considered one of the best cash game players in the world, especially

short-handed, and is extremely popular among fans. But to defend his title, he’ll have to defeat 4 other previous

PAD winners and one exceptional newcomer in Roland de Wolfe, the first player in

history to have ever won both a WPT title and an EPT title.

Chan

recently notched his second victory on Poker After Dark and now has a 2-1

record on the show, especially impressive since all of his previous appearances

were in matches that featured only World Champions. He will look to become the first 3-time winner in the show’s

history. Negreanu (1-5) won his

first match, but has struggled since, finishing no higher than 4th

in his last five attempts, so he will be eager to turn things around.

Hansen

also won his first match, but now sports a 1-4 record. He also holds the unenviable record for

being eliminated faster than anyone in PAD history, going out in the 6th

hand of Match 12, the previous International Week won by Antonius. Juanda has a first and a second place

finish in his previous two matches, and will look to become another 2-time PAD

winner, as will Negreanu, Hansen, and Antonius.

Brief

profiles of all six players follow.

The match will begin airing on NBC late night Monday at 2:05 a.m.,

February 25, and will continue for five consecutive nights in the same time

slot. A special program called the

“Director’s Cut” will air late night Saturday, March 1, at 1:00 a.m., right

after Saturday Night Live. This

show will feature Marianela with a behind-the-scenes look at the week with

highlights and insightful player interviews. Viewers can also watch the match on www.nbcsports.com/poker, which has recently undergone an upgrade

that visitors are sure to enjoy.

This

match makes for must-see television.

There are a number of situations that occur this week that have not

previously been witnessed. To find

out what they are, be sure to tune in.
