Dream Team Poker All Set for First Public Tournament
- Lance Bradley | March 20, 2009
Phil Hellmuth and Mike Matusow as teammates? Lacey Jones, Tiffany Michelle and Maria Ho working together? The first public tournament held by Dream Team Poker is promising to deliver big names in their unique format.
Dream Team Poker is a team-oriented tournament format that rewards players based on how their team performs overall. A player busting out on the first day of play is still in contention so long as his two teammates continue on in the tournament.
Hellmuth and Matusow are joining forces with L.A. Lakers owner Jerry Buss to form “Team Favorites” while “Team Yo Mama” will consist of Jones, Ho and Michelle. Team BLUFF, which won the inaugural event last November, will return with publisher Eric Morris, Editor-in-Chief Matt Parvis and BLUFF columnist Justin Bonomo hoping to defend their title.
“The event is great, the format makes it interesting for everybody involved,” said Morris. “We’re hopeful that we’ll be able to live up to our advanced billing. There are some very tough teams this time around.”
The event, which runs March 27 – 29 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, is also drawing in other big names and a number of poker playing celebrities. Leading the way for the celebrities will be Mekhi Pfifer who will join with former NBAer Chris Mills to form the “Sole Survivors”.
“Dream Team Poker offers a creative structure to team poker and we are proud to host this event in the World Series of Poker tournament room, which is also the site of NBC Heads Up Poker and daily poker tournaments,” said Jim Pedulla, Director of the Poker Room at Caesars Palace.
The field is limited to 100 teams and the buy-in for a three-player team is $1500 + $150. For more information visit www.dreamteampoker.com.
