Durrrr Challenge Begins: Dwan Up After First Session
- Lance Bradley | February 18, 2009
After more than a month of hype, speculation, and chatter, the durrrr Challenge, has finally gotten underway with Patrik Antonius and Tom “durrrr” Dwan sitting down at the four specially created $200/$400 Pot Limit Omaha tables on Full Tilt Poker to battle it out over 50,000 hands for millions of dollars, and a whole lot of bragging rights.
The challenge seems to have gotten underway shortly after 3:30 am PT, with the two competitors posting their first blinds, and beginning to battle for what could be weeks, if neither quits, or calls for mercy.
As play got underway Antonius took an early lead, winning a little over $100,000 off of the young superstar after only 505 hands. Dwan quickly found his comfort zone at about 700 hands, and has gone on a tear, not only erasing the early deficit, but building himself a lead of just over $100,000.
The biggest pot of the challenge was a $114,000 pot won by Dwan who, sitting in the big blind, called a $1,200 raise with K

led out for $2,400, and durrrr called. The turn brought the T
, giving Dwan two-pair, and two flush draws, while Antonius himself had a better two-pair, and wrap draw for the straight. After a series of raises, and re-raises all the money was in, and durrrr peeled the J
to scoop the pot up with his King-high flush.
When play wrapped up for the session the two players had played 1,541 hands with Dwan up $134,912. Shortly before play wrapped up Full Tilt Poker added four more tables for the durrrr challenge, also $200/$400 Pot Limit Omaha, presumably so Dwan can play the only other player to accept the challenge, Phil Ivey. BLUFFMagazine.com will continue to monitor the challenge, and bring you the latest in all the action.
