Dwan, Antonius Log Longest Durrrr Challenge Session Yet
- Jason Kirk | April 9, 2009
After an interview with Full Tilt Poker in which Patrik Antonius said he doubted the epic 50,000-hand Durrrr Challenge could be finished before this year’s World Series of Poker at the rate he and Tom Dwan have been playing, the pair sat down early Wednesday morning for a marathon session.
The 12th session of the marathon heads-up cash game wager between Dwan and Antonius saw the two high stakes heavyweights log 2,043 hands on the $200/$400 Pot Limit Omaha tables at Full Tilt. Coming in at eight hours, the session was easily the most substantial they have played to date. Dwan was up just over $29,000 over the course of the Challenge when the latest session began. But after 2,000+ hands the pendulum had swung back in Antonius’ direction to the tune of $110,000.
Both men took turns trading the lead for the session for the first four hours before Antonius claimed the largest pot of the night. The Finn opened for $1,200 on the button, Dwan potted it to $3,600, and Antonius re-potted to $10,800. Dwan called, the flop came down J

, and he took the opportunity to check-raise all-in for his remaining $71,695 after Antonius had bet $21,600. Antonius called with K

on the river gave Antonius the bigger two pair and a pot worth $154,989.
Though the end is still nowhere in sight, when Dwan finally called it a night the Challenge had crept a little closer to its end. He and Antonius have now played 9,290 hands against each other, with the Finn holding an $80,707 lead over that stretch. With no real schedule for the challenge – much to Antonius’ dismay – one can only wonder whether the next session will be a teaser or another marathon.
