EPT: Alex Gomes Takes Chip Lead to PCA Final Table
- Lance Bradley | January 10, 2009
Atlantis Resort and Casino has a great selection of waterslides for visitors to get some thrills from, but Alex Gomes decided to ride a rollercoaster on Friday at the 2009 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure.
Starting the day as one of the shorter stacks Gomes battled all the way back to carry a big stack halfway through the day only to bluff it away early in the evening. But on one of the final hands of the night Gomes’ Sixes full of Aces was better than Kevin “BeL0WaB0Ve” Saul’s Sixes full of Queens to give Gomes the nearly four million chip pot and propel the Brazilian Team PokerStars Pro into the chip lead for the final table.
Sitting in second when the eight-handed final table begins will be Pooyra Nazari with 6,790,000. Much like Gomes, Nazari started Day 4 with a short stack and battled back to be in position for the $3 million first place prize.
Gomes and Nazari are well ahead of their final table compatriots. Benny Spindler, in third, has nearly half of Nazari’s stack with 3,352,000. The final table includes four American players including Dan Heimiller and Saul. The online poker legend, Saul starts the day with 1,640,000 after losing the big pot to Gomes and days end.
The final table begins at Noon ET.
