EPT: Bertrand “eLKy” Grospellier Wins High Roller Event
- Lance Bradley | January 9, 2009
Apparently Bertrand “eLKy” Grospellier finds it easy to focus on his work when he’s surrounded by beautiful women in bikinis, endless beaches and pools and the tropical weather of the Caribbean. For the second year in a year Grospellier, a PokerStars Team Pro, is leaving the Bahamas with a boatload of money and a title to his name.
Grospellier, who won the PCA Main Event in 2008, came out on top of the $25,000 buy-in European Poker Tour High Rollers event to win $433,500. The final table featured some familiar names and faces including World Series of Poker bracelet winners, World Poker Tour title holders and as has become typical in the past year or so, a Russian.
Joining Grospellier as the other WPT title holder was Nick Schulman who busted in eighth for $45,700. Finishing in seventh was Daniel Alaei, one of four WSOP bracelet winners, for $57,000. The other bracelet winners at the final table were Eli Elezra (6th - $68,500), fan favorite Humberto Brenes (5th - $70,800) and Scott Seiver (3rd - $137,000).
The Russian was Liya Gerasimova, who just happens to be the girlfriend of November Niner and World Series of Poker Europe third place finisher Ivan Demidov. The Russian poker superstar spent the day sweating his girlfriend while doing his best to track the progress of his comrade Sergey Rybachenko who was making a run in the Main Event. Demidov also played in the World Championship of Battleship Poker. Gerasimova finished fourth for $91,300.
