EPT: Jeffrey Sarwer Leading Final 24 Players in Warsaw
- Lance Bradley | October 23, 2009
Being a former chess prodigy Jeffrey Sarwer is able to see three or four moves ahead of the competition. Now he’s the chipleader at the European Poker Tour event in Warsaw, Poland with only 23 pawns standing in between him and the $535,630 US first place prize money.
Sarwer’s 956,500 chips is a significant lead over the player who started Day 2 as the chipleader, Clayton Mozdzen. The Canadian sits in second after Day 3 with 574,000. The lone remaining American in the field is Shaun Deeb who sits in 13th with 192,500.
The biggest remaining name might be Russia’s Vitaly Lunkin. The winner of the $40,000 buy-in WSOP Anniversary tournament is in 12th with 198,500. He currently trails only Jason Mercier for the BLUFF Magazine Player of the Year award. Should Lunkin go on to win the tournament he would earn 280 POY points but still trail Mercier by 163.22 points.
The tournament ended without a cash for Peter Eastgate, Sorel Mizzi and Mel Judah. Play ended for the day when Domantas Klimciauskas busted out on the bubble in 25th place.
Action resumes Saturday at 12:30 pm local time.
