EPT: Mads Wissing Tops Day 1b in Copenhagen; O’Dwyer Still in Front
- Lance Bradley | February 22, 2012
Stephen O’Dwyer played well enough on Day 1a of EPT Copenhagen to finish on top of the chip counts for that day. With only 84 players starting the day there wasn’t a lot of chips for O’Dwyer to accumulate so when 215 players showed up on Day 1b it was expected the overall chipleader would come from that group. That’s not quite what happened though.
Mads Wissing was the top player from Day 1b. The Danish poker pro finished the day with 127,575 chips but that’s not anywhere close to the 190,975 that O’Dwyer finished Day 1a with. Only six players finished Day 1b with over 100,000 chips compared to the four from Day 1a. Wissing will actually start Day 2 with the third biggest stack as Lauri Varonen finished Day 1a with 161,150.
Right behind Wissing is Sebastian Rust with 119,100 and Alexander Manson with 113,025. Rounding out the top five are Costin Fucea, with 107,000, and Juha Helppi with 105,420.
The total field of 299 makes this EPT Copenhagen the second smallest of all time. The players are playing for a first place prize of €338,223 ($448,000 US).
Two familiar faces who didn’t make it through Day 1b were Viktor Blom and Jesper Hougaard. The 131 players who survived Day 1b will join with the 48 from Day 1a on Wednesday afternoon in Copenhagen.
Day 1b Top Ten Chip Counts
- Mads Wissing – 127,575
- Sebastian Rust – 119,100
- Alexander Manson – 113,025

- Kalle Niemi – 96,800
- Henrik Jeppsson – 96,700
- Kevin Iacofano – 96,150
- Michael Finderup – 94,475
