Federated Sports + Gaming Announces First Season Schedule

The new professional poker league being spearheaded by Annie Duke and Jeffrey Pollack might not have a name or any players yet but it does have a schedule of events for its first season. Federated Sports + Gaming announced Thursday the dates for the four events that will make up the first season of the league as well as the Championship event.

Each event will include a charity tournament, a Pro-Am tournament and the $20,000 buy-in main event. The first event is slated for August 12 – 19 with subsequent events running September 30 – October 7, December 1 – 10 and January 20 – 27. The two-day Championship event is scheduled for January 29 – 30. All events will take place at the Palms Casino in Las Vegas.

“We are excited to host a series of amazing poker events,” said Palms owner George Maloof. “No poker organization of its kind can compare to this professional league, and we look forward to celebrating its long term success.”

Some of the dates announced could create potential conflicts with other poker tournaments globally. The first event could run at the same time as the European Poker Tour stop in Tallinn while the second event is scheduled to end just as WSOP Europe is kicking off in France. The final event, which includes the Championship, runs in late-January and could go up against the players wishing to play in the myriad of events at the Aussie Millions.

Also announced on Thursday was a slight departure from the “pro-centric” league first announced. Players playing in the Pro-Am event, which is open to anybody paying the $1,500 entry fee, at each stop will have the ability to play their way into the main event. The final nine players from each Pro-Am will automatically earn a seat into the main event. The $180,000 will be withheld from the Pro-Am prizepool to cover the buy-ins for those nine players.

The format for each event will also vary. One tournament will feature a heads-up format with a “an innovative seeding structure”, another will be played six-handed and the third innovation is “a special multi-format tournament” according to a press release.

“We decided to vary the format of our events to showcase and challenge the skill of the best live tournament players in the world,” said Duke, the league’s commissioner. “Our Pro-Am events will create opportunities for break-out stars to shine.”

The 200 players that will be eligible to compete in the first season has not yet been announced but could come soon. There were some rumors last week that the list had been finalized and would be released soon.
