Former World Champ Jamie Gold Signs With Poker Icons
- Jason Kirk | May 11, 2009
The poker agency, which has recently added offices in London and Macau, announced today that it will partner with the controversial former WSOP champ.
“I’m very excited about joining Poker Icons. Their international presence and expertise in poker makes this relationship fit perfectly. I’m really looking forward to this partnership,” Gold said in the press release announcing his new deal with Poker Icons.
That kind of excitement over signing on with someone new in the poker industry is old hat for Gold by now. After his WSOP triumph, Gold had a short-lived relationship with online poker room Bodog that saw him star in commercials promoting the “Bodog lifestyle.” But Bodog cut Gold loose before he had even settled his legal dispute with Crispin Leyser, which centered on a handshake deal for half of Gold’s winnings made before he had even entered the tournament.
Then this past February, Gold signed on to represent new online poker room Aced.com. “Aced and I plan to leave our mark, not just on poker, but on the world,” Gold said in a breathless press release announcing the deal. But the only mark Gold left before recently parting ways with the upstart poker room was winning the team title at the recent $500 Dream Team Poker tournament as part of Team Aced.
Gold’s first project with Poker Icons will be a charity tournament at the world-famous Cannes Film Festival in the south of France. On May 17, Gold and Rounders star Ed Norton will host a celebrity poker night to raise money for the Sunflower Children Foundation and the Wilhelm & Karl Maybach Foundation, with the winner receiving a seat in the WSOP Main Event and private coaching from Gold.
