FTOPS: Blair blur5f6 Hinkle Wins First-Ever FTOPS $1 Million Prize
- Jessica Welman | February 21, 2011
We all knew it would be big. Question was—just how big would it get? The FTOPS XIX Main Event promised a prize pool of at least $3 million, a guarantee they’ve both made and missed in past events. However, with the introduction of Multi-Entry events into the series, guarantees were easily being doubled and tripled. Most figured the Main Event would hit $6 million, while some even wondered if it could get as high as $9 million.
In the end, there was a total of $8,687,400 up for grabs in the event, thanks to an FTOPS Main Event record-setting field of 14,479 players. It also set up a potential seven-figure payday for the eventual winner—another FTOPS first.
The event stretched late into the night and on into the morning and, while there was a player who pocketed a seven figure payday, it was not the winner of the tournament. Thanks to a three-way chop at the final table, Blair “blur5f6” Hinkle banked the biggest payday in FTOPS history worth $1,162,949.74 despite finishing in second place. Meanwhile, GIAMPP grabbed the gold jersey and a more than respectable $878,000 payday for his winning efforts.
The Two-Day event also drew to a close on Sunday and NextCase222 had the best side of a three-handed deal with Bryan “enterthewu19” Piccioli and Ben “bonafidedonkey” Palmer. NextCase222 earned over $332,000 for the win, and each of the final three banked at least $280,000 for their efforts.
There was also a six-handed Knockout No Limit Hold’em FTOPS in lieu of the Sunday Brawl. That tournament drew over 6,000 runners with “AndyMcloed” prevailing to the tune of more than $163,000.
The final big winner of the series is Paul “paulgees81” Volpe. While he failed to pick up a jersey this series, Volpe did make numerous final table appearances and, as a result, prevailed in the FTOPS XIX Player of the Series race. He will be rewarded with the coveted custom avatar for his efforts.
And with that, FTOPS XIX is in the books. The series set countless records, thanks mostly to the introduction of multi-entry events and the launch of the $10,000 buy-in Heads-Up tournament. There was action, big names, and some of the biggest fields and prize pools online. If you’re going through FTOPS withdrawal already, never fear, as FTOPS XX is just around the corner.

Strange that there’s absolutely no mention that Hinkle is a bracelet winner. Also the deal in that FTOPS gave the 3rd placer too sweet a deal i thought.
