FTOPS XIV Event #1: “S00tedj0kers89″ Gets the Last Laugh
- Jessica Welman | November 5, 2009
The first event of the Full Tilt Online Poker Series (FTOPS) XIV got underway last night and, even with the promise of a $1 million guaranteed prize pool, the field saw a significant decrease in size over the same event last series. While the opening event of FTOPS XIII drew 5,712 runners and easily surpassed its $1 million guarantee, last night’s tournament only had 4,694 players and Full Tilt had to juice the prize pool with over $60,000 out of their own pocket to hit the $1 million mark. It is still too early to tell if this decline in attendance will be a universal theme through this FTOPS or if people just had more pressing things to do this particular Wednesday night.
Decline in field aside, their was still $1 million up for grabs and the potential for at least two six figure payouts for the lucky individuals who could navigate their way to the final table of this $216 buy-in 6-handed No Limit Hold’em Event. Players like Josh “buttsauce33″ Weizer (44th), Ravi “govshark2″ Raghaven (41st), Mark “Pghfan987″ Busch (33rd) and arsenal46 (20th) made valiant runs, but just fell short of the final table.
Those who did survive to the final six included Bryan “badbeatninja” Devonshire, Kevin “kev19″ Tanner and the eventual champion Kory “s00tedj0kers89″ Kilpatrick. Once “Andicover” busted out in 6th place and Devonshire made his exit in 5th, the final four players paused the action to discuss a deal. The four agreed to a chop that favored kev19 and s00tedj0kers with six figure payouts and $10,000 was left on the table for the winner.Â
That winner would be s00tedj0kers89, who claimed the extra $10K and the first gold jersey of this FTOPS just past 8AM on Thursday morning. According to the chatbox, Kilpatrick was not going to get to celebrate the big victory or get some rest just yet though—instead, he was off to class, where he will presumably be solely focused on academic enrichment versus his largest online poker score to date.
Here are the complete results from the final table of FTOPS XIV Event #1:
1st: Kory “s00tedj0kers89″ Kilpatrick ($120,000)
2nd: Kevin “kev19″ Tanner ($115,000)
3rd: taaffey ($80,000)
4th: nolez7 ($98,600)
5th: Bryan “badbeatninja” Devonshire ($37,000)
6th: Andicover ($23,000)
