FTOPS XIV Event #2: “RhymesWOrange” Sounds Like a Winner

The latest poker trend of 7 and 8 Game rotations hit the Full Tilt Online Poker Series (FTOPS) on Thursday with its Event #2, a $200 + $16 buy-in 6-handed 7 Game tournament. The 838 runners meant the event easily reached its $150,000 guarantee and generated a total prize pool of $167,700. Players in the event had to display a prowess in the five games of HORSE as well as No Limit Hold’em and Pot Limit Omaha. The Full Tilt Red Pros turned out en masse, with players like Huck Seed, Jeff Madsen, Mike “Timex” McDonald and Vitaly Lunkin all took part in the event, which was hosted by David Chiu.

The best finish of the red pros was by Scott Fischman, who busted out in 36th place. Other notable finishes in the tournament included Matt “mattster24″ Sterling (45th), Tom “SBRounder” West (26th), Chris “PiMaster” Viox (24th) and Andrew “Browndog19″ Brown (13th).  With the elimination of “PAYMYLOANS” in 7th place after a particularly lengthy stretch of hand-for-hand play the final table was all set:

Seat 1: jhksauser (302,573)
Seat 2: Randers (422,667)
Seat 3: real-nic (394,146)
Seat 4: RymesWOrange (933,973)
Seat 5: 7PRS (601,572)
Seat 6: St3phenHendry (697,069)

After almost an hour of hand-for-hand play, it surprisingly only took two hands before the final table lost its first player. The game was PLO and Randy “Randers” Haddox raised from the button with the blinds at 6,000/12,000 and both “real-nic” and “RymesWOrange” called from the blinds. The flop came 8 4 2, real-nic checked, RymesWOrange bet half the pot and real-nic called, leaving around 270,000 chips behind. The turn brought the J and real-nic checked once again. RymesWOrange put in a nearly pot-sized bet and real-nic called, leaving just 80,000 chips behind. The river was the 6 and real-nic moved all-in. RymesWOrange called, tabling JJT4 for a set of jacks, while real-nic showed 9687 for two pair. RymesWOrange scooped the 750,000 chip pot to further pad their chip lead and real-nic was out in 6th place.

Both Randers and “jhksauser” were able to take some chips off RymesWOrange during the PLO round, but jhksauser lost a big pot back to RymesWOrange during the Limit Hold’em round to find themselves on the short stack. Jhksauser rallied back from a low point of 60,000, but were sent to the rail in 5th place when their split jacks ran into Randers’ buried kings during the Stud H/L round. “7PRS” also took a big hit during Stud Hi/Lo when “St3phenHendry” made trip fours and collected over half of 7PRS’ stack in the process.

7PRS would do their best to rally, but their stack continued to dwindle and they got their last 50,000 or so in during the Razz round holding 875 to RymesWOrange’s Q75. A lucky A on 7th street made RymesWOrange a 7-low, while the best 7PRS could muster was a 9-low so they were out in 4th while RymesWOrange held a sizeable chip lead with over 2 million chips headed into 3-handed play.

St3phenHendry was the short stack to begin 3-handed play, but a Razz double up courtesy of RhymesWOrange helped them to pull close to even with Randers. At first, the two shorter stacks were able to nab some chips off RhymesWOrange, but they eventually regained control of the table and began chipping away at the other two players throughout the rest of Razz play.

St3phenHendry retaliated during the Omaha H/L round, but Randers found his chip stack slowly shrinking and eventually made a stand against RhymesWOrange preflop for his last 3 big bets holding KQ73 to RhymesWOrange’s KKA6. The board ran out A 8 2 3 9 and RhymesWOrange’s hand scooped the pot to eliminatd Randers in third place.

At the outset of heads-up play RhymesWOrange held a 2-1 advantage over St3phenHendry and they continued to slowly build on that lead as the pair played through the Omaha and Stud Hi rounds. It did not take too long into the No Limit Hold’em round before the two players got it all-in preflop with St3phenHendry holding A9 to RhymesWOrange’s AK. RhymesWOrange’s superior ace held as the board ran out K 6 4 4 7 and St3phenHendry would have to settle for second place since the hand locked up a victory, $35,782.60 and a gold jersey for RhymesWOrange.

Here are the complete results from the final table of Event #2:

1st: RhymesWOrange ($35,782.60)
2nd: St3phenHendry ($23,464.00)
3rd: Randy “Randers” Haddox ($16,760.00)
4th: 7PRS ($12,737.60)
5th: jhksauser ($9,050.40)
6th: real-nic ($5,782.20)
