FTOPS XV: Ddanchev and Bbuddy4brkfst Win Events #4 and #5
- Jessica Welman | February 13, 2010
So far, so good for Full Tilt Online Poker Series (FTOPS) XV. The series is now five for five on making its guarantees, as Friday’s double bill of tournaments went off without a hitch. The afternoon tournament generated some huge numbers and featured a prize pool of $716,000. The $200 buy-in No Limit Hold’em Cubed event drew 1,524 players, 1,070 rebuys and 986 add-ons. All that rebuy and add-on money helped to make a first place prize in excess of $150,000.
Full Tilt Poker’s latest Red Pro, Caio Pimenta, made a smashing debut with an in-the-money finish in the event. His 79th place showing put him in the ranks of the 162 players who cashed in the event, alongside the likes of Alex “Kadabra” Keating (16th), Mike “GoLeafsGoEh” Leah (17th), Chris “cdbr3799” Dombrowski (21st) and Michael “bevno123” Benvenuti (34th).
In no time at all the final table was set and these nine players were left to vie for the jersey:

Seat 1: IamsmartSMRT (440,808)
Seat 2: Rudhouse (247,740)
Seat 3: Tabalaba (736,944)
Seat 4: kimjohn (1,385,801)
Seat 5: William “GPTBigGuy” Looper (396,536)
Seat 6: ddanchev (1,098,916)
Seat 7: flpro (1,093,301)
Seat 8: jacquo93 (182,591)
Seat 9: Sirocko (2,070,363)
The blinds were up to 10,000/20,000 ante 2,500 when the final table was set, which meant that Rudhouse and jacquo93 were looking to find a spot to get it all-in as soon as possible. Rudhouse took a shot just five hands after basic_elements was eliminated in 10th place. Action folded to IamsmartSMRT on the button and he put in a small raise. Rudhouse reraised all-in from the smell blind with A
8
and IamsmartSMRT called with A
J
. The superior ace held and Rudhouse was out in 9th place. IamsmartSMRT continued to accumulate chips and it wasn’t long before he was up to nearly 1.5 million.
The next player to hit the rail was kimjohn. His remaining 584,000 went all-in preflop holding T
T
against Sirocko’s A
Q
. An ace on the flop and a queen on the turn left kimjohn drawing slim and a blank on the river busted him out in 8th place. Jacquo93 made his exit ot long after when he shoved with K
J
, Tabalaba called with A
8
and the board ran out 7
6
5
2
T
. Ace high was good enough to give Tabalaba the pot, but he was still the short stack with six players remaining.
That changed though when IamsmartSMRT raised on the button, William “GPTBigGuy” Looper popped it up in the big blind and IamsmartSMRT shoved all-in, having GPTBigGuy’s remaining 565,000 easily covered. GPTBigGuy made the easy call with A
A
and IamsmartSMRT showed 9
T
. The aces held and IamsmartSMRT was down to 700,000 with the blinds at 14,000/28,000 ante 3,500. He managed to build his stack back up, but then he doubled up Sirocko in the following hand:
Action folded to Sirocko in the small blind and he raised. IamsmartSMRT reraised out of the big, and Sirocko called. The flop fell K
Q
5
and Sirocko check-called a bet from IamsmartSMRT. The turn brought the 3
and Sirocko checked again. IamsmartSMRT moved all-in to the 685,000 chip pot having Sirocko’s remaining 835,000 covered and Sirocko called with Q
J
for middle pair. IamsmartSMRT revealed K
4
and was ahead until Q
made trips for Sirocko and sent the pot his way.
A coinflip versus GPTBigGuy sent a good chunk of Sirocko’s stack GPTBigGuy’s way and the very next hand IamsmartSMRT lost a flip of his own against ddanchev to go out in 5th place. Ddanchev kept the eliminations coming, picking off GPTBigGuy just three hands later. GPTBigGuy got it all-in holding pocket queens to ddanchev’s pocket kings. The board was lady-free and GPTBigGuy was the event’s 4th place finisher.
After that massive pot, ddanchev had a massive chip lead, holding almost 5 million chips to flpro’s 1.4 million and Sirocko’s 1.2 million. The big lead gave him a lot of leverage when the players started working out a deal and he got the biggest piece of a three-way chop. He was guaranteed $131,000 while the other two players would each walk away with a minimum of $90,000. The remaining $12,632 was split between the eventual first and second place finishers and play resumed.
Ddanchev quickly chipped away at the two short stacks and had each of them under 1 million chips with the blinds up to 20,000/40,000 ante 5,000. Sirocko was down to less than half a million chips when he shoved all-in from the small blind holding K
4
and ddanchev picked up pocket fives in the big blind and called. The board was no help to Sirocko and he was out in 3rd place.
The heads-up bout was an incredibly brief one, lasting only one hand. The two players got it all-in with flpro holding 8
8
to ddanchev’s 7
7
. The K
K
Q
flop looked good for flpro, but the 7
on the turn spelled disaster. The river 4
was no help and flpro had to settle for second place while ddanchev claimed the victory.
Here are the final table results from FTOPS XV Event #4:

The evening event on Friday’s lineup was a 6-handed $200 Limit Hold’em tournament. The site guaranteed a $150,000, but instead ended up with $166,800 up for grabs after 834 players signed up to take part. The top 102 players made it into the money and notable names like Brett “gank” Jungblut (22nd), Full Tilt Red Pro Brandon Adams (37th) and Casey “bigdogpckt5s” Jarzabek (40th) all walked away with a little extra cash in their pockets.
The six players vying for the biggest chunks of change included a couple of known pros like Mark “xqsays” Radoja and Josh “pbdrunks” VanDuyn. The two online grinders were unable to nab the jersey though, finishing 3rd and 5th respectively. The top two finishers agreed to a deal that practically amounted to an even chop. Wondertwinpower got the bigger cut with a $30,000 payday while Bbuddy4brkfst was the one who ended up booking the win and taking home $28,963.80.
Here are the final table results from FTOPS XV Event #5:
