FTOPS XV: Dombrowski Dominates at Stacked Rebuy Final Table
- Jessica Welman | February 14, 2010
It may not be the Olympics in Vancouver, but today’s Full Tilt Online Poker Series (FTOPS) XV event did have plenty of tough competition and, hey, they even gave away something gold to the winner.
The early event offered up a little short-handed Pot Limit Omaha action. FTOPS XV Event #6 featured a $500 buy-in and drew 823 entrants. The $411,500 prize pool easily met the guarantee and ensured each of the six players at the final table would earn over $14,000.
Nikolay Evdakov posted the best showing of the Red Pros with his 55th place finish, while Mike “SirWatts” Watson (33rd), Stewart “StuMan123” Yancik (32nd), Kenny “Hixx” Hicks (31st), Nick “Grippolio” Grippo (22nd) and Matt “VerySexual” Larsh (16th) got even closer to the final table.
The top three finishers in the event elected to chop up the remaining prize pool, with each player taking around $60,000 while zimp721 got the biggest piece of the pie at $65,173.34 as well as the jersey.
Here are the final table results from FTOPS XV Event #6:
1st: zimp721 ($65,173.34)
2nd: Deniro77 ($61,673.34)
3rd: babayaro ($59,768.57)
4th: jcasper432 ($31,274.00)
5th: William “hickey987” Hickey ($22,221.00)
6th: Sunspot28 ($14,196.75)
Event #7 drew a huge field compared to Event #6, with 2,099 entries. The tournament, hosted by Dag Mikkelsen, was a $100 rebuy event that generated a $645,000 prize pool thanks to 2,995 rebuys and 1,361 add-ons. All that money meant first place was more than likely walking away with a six-figure payday and with just a few tables remaining, there were plenty of big names vying for that top prize.
Anthony “D1rtyR1v3r” Nardi (26th), Jeremiah “Believer8219” Vinsant (15th) and Dan “Wretchy” Martin (10th) had their sights set on the final table, but it was not to be this time around. There were still a number of big names amongst the last nine though, including Chris “cdbr3799” Dombrowski, Jesse “JMaster130” Cohen and Andrew “bankrollme87” Touchette:

Seat 1: Volody512345 (210,997)
Seat 2: Andrew “bankrollme87” Touchette (636,403)
Seat 3: Chris “cdbr3799” Dombrowski (3,068,814)
Seat 4: Jabronee (938,260)
Seat 5: bdubs3737 (846,802)
Seat 6: mordovorotishe (949,981)
Seat 7: GreenGuard13 (1,245,440)
Seat 8: Deigohada (1,003,544)
Seat 9: Jesse “JMaster130” Cohen (1,462,759)
The action at the final table was primarily a preflop affair as the blinds began at 17,000/34,000 ante 4,000 and quickly escalated. Volody512345 began as the shortest stack, but doubled up early on through Jabronee and repeated the feat again just a short while later to bump his stack up over 800,000 chips. Jabronee got a double up of his own, courtesy of chip leader Chris “cdbr3799” Dombrowski.
The small hit didn’t do too much damage to cdbr3799’s stack and knocking out bdubs3737 in 9th place. Cdbr3799 raised in late position and bdubs3737 moved all-in from the small blind for almost 600,000. Cdbr3799 called with A
T
while bdubs3737 showed A
Q
. The board ran out J
8
2
5
and then cdbr3799 hit a three-outer with the T
on the river to rake the pot and knock out bdubs3737. AQ proved to be a winner for Diegohada too, as he successfully raced his A
Q
off against mordovorotishe’s 8
8
. The overcards prevailed, leaving mordovoro with just 4,632 chips and he was eliminated in 8th place by cdbr3799 just a few hands later.
At this point, cdbr3799 had four times as many chips as his next closest competitor and he started to get hyper aggressive. Most of the players at the final table were down to 20 big blinds or less, so cdbr3799 was able to do a lot of blind stealing with little resistance. Volody512345 was able to double up a third time courtesy of cdbr3799, as did Diegohada, but cdbr3799 remained atop the leaderboard.
Cdbr3799 opened for a raise under the gun with the blinds up to 30,000/60,000 and action folded to Volody512345 in the small blind, who shoved all-in for 800,000. Andrew “bankrollme87” Touchette moved all-in for 750,000 from the big blind and cdbr3799 folded. Volody512345’s pocket jacks held against bankrollme87’s pocket tens and suddenly the field was down to six. Jabronee was the next to go when he got his remaining million chips all-in preflop holding A
T
to cdbr3799’s 8
8
. The board ran out K
7
3
7
8
and the eights made a boat on the river to eliminate Jabronee in 6th place and boost cdbr3799 up over 5 million chips.
Jesse “JMaster130” Cohen had been quiet for much of the final table, but became a force to be reckoned with when his A
A
collected a massive 3.3 million chip pot when they held up against Volody512345’s K
K
. JMaster130 collected Volody512345’s last half a million when he put the short stack all-in from the small blind and Volody512345 called from the big with K
Q
. JMaster130’s J
4
needed help, which came when the flop fell J
6
5
. An A
on the turn and 6
on the river sealed the deal for JMaster130 and Volody512345 was out in 5th.
That hand put him neck and neck for the chip lead with cdbr3799 for the chip lead while Diegohada was on the short stack with just 540,000. GreenGuard13 raised the button and Diegohada shoved all-in from the small blind holding Q
8
. GreenGuard13 felt priced in to call with 3
4
, which ended up being the best hand after the board ran out J
T
3
Q
3
. The river three sent Diegohada to the rail in 4th and boosted GreeGuard13 up to 1.5 million chips.
The chips shuffled around the table with ease during 3-handed play until cdbr3799 pulled away from the pack with 6 million chips. Cdbr3799 raised the button with the blinds up to 50,000/100,000 and 10,000 and GreenGuard13 moved all-in from the small blind for almost 1.3 million total. Cdbr3799 called with 4
4
while GreenGuard13 held A
6
. The small pair held to eliminate GreenGuard13 in 3rd place and give cdbr3799 the 3-1 chip advantage going into heads-up play.
The man-to-man bout lasted just ten hands. Down to his last 1.4 million, JMaster130 got it all-in holding A
7
to cdbr3799’s A
5
. JMaster130’s double up looked imminent…that is until the flop fell J
5
5
. The 3
on the turn and T
on the river meant the end for JMaster130 and a gold jersey and $131,649.73 payday for Chris “cdbr3799” Dombrowski.
Here are the final table results from FTOPS XV Event #7:
1st: Chris “cdbr3799” Dombrowski ($131,649.73)
