FTOPS XV: Main Event Sees a Seven-Way Chop

While the nine players in the record-setting Sunday Million didn’t even pause to consider chopping up the prize pool, the nine players at the final table of the Full Tilt Online Poker Series (FTOPS) XV Main Event decided to share the wealth with a 7-way deal. In their defense, with 5,646 entries and $2,822,500 prize pool, there was a lot of wealth to be had. In the original payouts, almost half a million dollars was set aside for the winner, while the top five players would all receive six figure paydays.

Those big numbers motivated many online regulars to put their best game forward and several turned in solid performances as a result. Tracey “XTraCey” Nguyen (38th), Full Tilt Red Pro Michael Tureniec (33rd), Moritz “Catenaccio” Kranich (31st), Casey “bigdogpckt5s” Jarzabek (22nd) and Joe “CoeJassidy” Cassidy (12th) all played for upwards of 12 hours to be one of the last few players in contention, but they would miss out on the final table, which was populated primarily by unknown screennames:

Seat 2: SurferKel (4,615,929)
Seat 3: vice67 (3,696,739)
Seat 4: JackQKA (4,741,252)
Seat 5: dfhjik (8,683,371)
Seat 6: trojancountry (1,546,744)
Seat 7: TheJunkie (6,126,495)
Seat 8: The Fluke1200 (2,443,344)
Seat 9: PageUpV (6,579,316)

It only took two hands at the final table to lose a player and four before the field started thinking about a chop. With blinds at 80,000/160,000 ante 20,000, things were on the verge of turning into a crapshoot within a couple of levels, and there were already some short stacks desperately looking to double up.

One such short stack was trojancountry, who jammed in his last 1.5 million from the hijack holding AJ. The Fluke1200 reshoved for 2.7 million on the button and everyone else folded to let the two duke it out. Trojancountry had the worst of it with his AJ, as The Fluke1200 showed AQ. The flop and turn brought 8425 and trojancountry hit his jack on the river, but it was the J, giving The Fluke1200 a flush and eliminating trojancountry in 9th place.

Two hands later, a blind versus blind confrontation would eliminate the 8th place finisher. Action folded to SurferKel in the small blind, who popped it up to 441,000. Vice67 shoved all-in for just over 3.5 million total with A8 and SurferKel called with JJ. The board ran out king-high to eliminate vice67 in 8th place and get the remaining field thinking about chopping up the money.

The group managed to successfully negotiate a deal that resulted in each of them walking away with over $170,000. There was more than pride on the line after the chop though, as $72,000 was set aside along with the jersey to whoever took the event down. Typically a chop loosens up players’ hand selections, but action stayed small for a while after the deal, until JackQKA picked up aces against SurferKel’s AK to double up to over 9.2 million chips.

JackQKA continued to accumulate chips when The Fluke1200 raised all-in for 3.7 million at the 120,000/240,000 ante 30,000 blind level and JackQKA reraised to over 7 million out of the small blind. Dfhjik folded in the big blind, leaving JackQKA’s AJ to race against The Fluke1200’s pocket sixes. The J72 flop gave JackQKA the advantage, and with no six on the turn or river, The Fluke1200 was out in 7th place.

JackQKA lost a couple million doubling up TheJunkie, but got them all back plus more when he raised from the cutoff and TheJunkie moved all-in for 4.8 million out of the small blind. JackQKA called with 88 and was in another coinflip situation, this time against TheJunkie’sKT. The 433AA board favored JackQKA, eliminated TheJunkie in 6th and boosted JackQKA’s chip stack to over 16 million.

JackQKA eclipsed the 20 million mark when SurferKel completed the small blind, JackQKA checked his option in the big blind and the duo saw a flop of 873. SurferKel checked, while JackQKA fired a half-pot bet. SurferKel moved all-in on a draw, holding 56 for the open-ender and JackQKA called with 8T for top pair. The 7 brought a flush draw for SurferKel and a boat draw for JackQKA, and the 8 on the river filled JackQKA up to knock SurferKel out in 5th place.

JackQKA looked to be unstoppable until a blind versus blind altercation resulted in him losing half his stack by doubling up ReloadPlz. ReloadPlz didn’t hold on to those chips for long though. He got involved in an all-in preflop confrontation against PageUpV holding AJ to PageUpV’s AT. The flop fell 884 and the J on the turn paired ReloadPlz up, but also gave PAgeUpV a flush draw. The 7 on the river made the diamond flush and PageUpV doubled to over 10 million, while ReloadPlz was down to just over 3 million. A few hands later, ReloadPlz shoved the button with QT, dfhjik called in the big blind with A9 and a dry board sent ReloadPlz home in 4th place.

During 3-handed play, the chips flew around the table with wreckless abandon, but the players managed to stave off elimination. Dfhjik took hold of the chiplead, getting as high as 20 million, but an ill-timed bluff left him on the short stack. Blinds were up to 170,000/340,000 ante 40,000 when dfhjik minraised on the button and JackQKA called out of the big blind. The flop fell A52 and JackQKA checked. Dfhjik bet out just over a million and JackQKA called. Te turn brought the 9 and JackQKA checked again. Dfhjik continued to fire, betting 3 million. JackQKA once again called and the two saw the river fall 2. JackQKA checked a third time, dfhjik bet out 7.8 million, which was enough to put JackQKA all-in. JackQKA called with A4 for aces up, while dfhjik showed JT for a stone cold bluff. JackQKA raked the 25 million cihp pot and dfhjik dropped to 7.6 million.

The duo went at it again when JackQKA raised out of the small blind and dfhjlk shoved all-in with 88. JackQKA called, tabling KT, and won yet another flip as the board ran out KQTJ6 to eliminate dfhjik in 3rd place. That set up a heads-up match between JackQKA and PageUpV where JackQKA held a 5-1 chip advantage over his opponent.

PageUpV doubled up on the second hand of heads-up play when the duo got it all-in on a board of QT4K. JackQKA held T4 for two pair, but PageUpV turned a straight with his J9. The straight held up and PageUpV doubled to just over 16 million. That was the closest PageUpV would get to victory though. On the final hand of play, JackQKA minraised on the button and PageUpV made it almost 1.7 million to go out of the big blind. JackQKA called and the flop fell K54. PageUpV bet out 1.1 million, JackQKA called and the two saw the turn come 8. PageUpV checked, while JackQKA bet out 3.2 milllion. PageUpV then check-raised all-in for 10 million more and JackQKA called with his AA. PageUpV’s K6 needed to improve in order to stay alive, but the river brought the 4 to ship JackQKA the pot, the match, the gold jersey and a payout of $237,643.69.

It also brought the fifteenth installment of the FTOPS to a close and made UnoffensiveNick the official player of the series and winner of the coveted Full Tilt custom avatar. The action doesn’t end here though, as Full Tilt’s MiniFTOPS series gets underway on March 10th.
