FTOPS XVI: BRO20 Picks Up Jersey #2 in Event #1
- Jessica Welman | April 24, 2010
The Full Tilt Online Poker Series (FTOPS) is back and the sixteenth installment of the popular online tournament series kicked off Friday with a trio of Hold’em events. Though two of the three events failed to make their guarantees, there were still some big payouts on the day, including a $134,250 victory for FTOPS Event #1 winner BRO20, who picked up his second career gold jersey with the win.
Here’s the scoop on each of Friday’s three events, including a recap of the Event #1 final table:
FTOPS Event #1 – $200 No Limit Hold’em
The online series kicked off with a $750,000 guarantee No Limit Hold’em that drew 3,673 runners. Those numbers, while impressive, meant the field fell short of the guarantee by $15,400. The large field still had plenty of money to fight over though, as each of the top three players were guaranteed over $65,000.
The final table was a stacked one, with former FTOPS winners Kavin86 and BRO20, FTOPS XIII Player of the Series James “bob2bob” Page, online pro Jonathan “driverseati” Tamayo, Cardrunners instructor Frank “E-Cart7” Peelen and Full Tilt Poker Red Pro Bruno Stefanelli. An amazing line-up like this, Event #1 is already the clear frontrunner for final table of the series, but we’ve got nine more days of action to see if any of the other events can do one better.
Here is how the action went down once the final table was set:

Seat 1: Frank “E-Cart7” Peelen (1,275,968)
Seat 2: Agentu23 (746,065)
Seat 3: BRO20 (3,544,866)
Seat 4: mymuckyourluck (1,646,546)
Seat 5: Kavin86 (3,240,391)
Seat 6: Jonathan “driverseati” Tamayo (1,786,418)
Seat 7: Bruno Stefanelli (908,680)
Seat 8: James “bob2bob” Page (3,999,228)
Seat 9: GoldenGaze1 (1,216,838)
It took a little while for the final table to lose a player and the chips shuffled around for a few orbits before GoldenGaze1 got his remaining 880,000 all-in preflop holding a pocket pair against Jonathan “driverseati” Tamayo’s A
K
. The board ran out A
J
8
K
2
and Tamayo’s aces up busted GoldenGaze1 in 9th place.
Full Tilt Red Pro Bruno Stefanelli was the next to fall when BRO20 opened for a raise to 120,000 in middle position at the 25,000/50,000 ante 4,000 level and Stefanelli called out of the big blind. The flop fell T
8
7
and Stefanelli led out for 150,000. BRO20 called and the duo saw the turn bring the J
. Stefanelli moved all-in for just over half a million chips and BRO20 called, tabling 6
9
for a flopped straight. Stefanelli’s J
T
needed to fill up in order for him to stay alive, but the 7
on the river was no help and he was out in 8th place.
Things were getting dire for mymuckyourluck during the 30,000/60,000 level. He shoved all-in under the gun for his remaining 620,000. James “bob2bob” Page called from the cutoff and everyone else folded. Mymuckyourluck showed A
8
, which needed help against bob2bob’s J
J
. The board ran out queen high and mymuckyourluck hit the rail in 7th. Pocket jacks worked well for Agentu23, who doubled through Frank “E-Cart7” Peelen juts a few hands later. Peelen would get it all back and more though when he got it all-in preflop holding pocket nines to Agentu23’s A
9
.
Just a few hands after that, a massive 3-way all-in ensued. Agentu23 shoved in the cutoff for 593,000, Kavin86 reshipped for 1.16 million out of the small blind and driverseati called out of the big blind. Agentu23 had the worst of it with K
2
and Kavin86’s [5d5c] were trailing driverseati’s 9
9
. The board ran out A
Q
T
2
Q
and driverseati knocked out two players in one swoop to trim the field to four.
Blinds were up to 40,000/80,000 when E-Cart7 minraised from under the gun, BRO20 called on the button and bob2bob shoved all-in out of the big blind for 1.5 million. Bob2bob’s A
2
needed help against E-Cart7’s 8
8
and got it in the form of a 3
2
2
flop. However, the 8
on the turn gave E-Cart a full house and left bob2bob drawing to a single out. The Q
on the river was no help and bob2bob was the 4th place finisher.
A big pot in which he made a flush against BRO20 gave E-Cart the chip lead and left BRO20 on the short stack with 3 million chips. BRO20 dwindled down to 2.4 million when he got it all-in at the 50,000/100,000 level holding A
4
to driverseati’s 8
8
. The board ran out K
J
7
T
Q
to give BRO20 a Broadway straight and the much-needed double up.
From there, things went south for driverseati. Despite doubling through E-Cart7 with tens to his sevens, driverseati couldn’t get much going during a lengthy bout of 3-handed play. While he was treading water, BRO20 was chipping up and found himself in the chip lead after a few big pots against E-Cart7. Driverseati finally got things to turn around when he picked up pocket eights again and managed to win a crucial flip against E-Cart7 and his A
J
.
E-Cart7 was close to the felt and doubled up when he picked up A
Q
to BRO20’s A
T
and doubled again when driverseati moved all-in from the small blind with Q
4
and E-Cart7 snapped him off with A
4
. The ace held up and suddenly it was driverseati on the short stack again. The very next hand, driverseati’s 2
2
lost to E-Cart’s A
K
and heads-up play began with BRO20 holding a 2-1 advantage over E-Cart7.
It took less than twenty hands to determine a winner. E-Cart7 managed to double up when he turned a straight on a T

7
9
board and shoved all-in when the Q
hit on the river. BRO20 called the 2.7 million chip bet and mucked when E-Cart7 showed J
6
. BRO20 retained the chip lead and got it all-in just ten hands later when he picked up K
K
to E-Cart7’s A
T
. The cowboys held up and BRO20 claimed the first gold jersey of FTOPS XVI with an outright victory.
