Full Tilt and PokerStars Respond to Indictments, Pull Out of U.S.

Following the news Friday that the founders of PokerStars, Full Tilt and AbsolutePoker had been indicted by the U.S. Department of Justice on fraud and conspiracy charges both Full Tilt and PokerStars have decided to no longer offer real money play to players in the United States.

“As you may have heard, we have had to suspend real money poker services to players based in the U.S. due to recent legal developments there,” a statement from PokerStars read.

Full Tilt released a similar statement.

“Unfortunately, as a result of this action, Full Tilt Poker has decided that it must suspend “real money” play in the United States until this case is resolved. However, Full Tilt Poker will continue to provide peer-to-peer online poker services outside of the United States.”

In a seperate notice in the Full Tilt Poker client players have been assured that any financial transactions will still proceed.

“In light of recent events involving the freezing of certain accounts, Full Tilt Poker would like to assure all players that their funds remain safe and secure. Processing of both deposit and withdrawal requests is proceeding as normal and is still available to all of our players,” read a notice in the Full Tilt Poker client.

Full Tilt Poker has also released the first words from Full Tilt Poker executive Ray Bitar, one of those named in the indictment.

“I am surprised and disappointed by the government’s decision to bring these charges. I look forward to Mr. Burtnick’s and my exoneration,” said Ray Bitar.

I personally would welcome any poker players that would move to BC, Canada. Come watch hockey and enjoy our beautiful province while playing poker to your heart’s content. America should have done something similar for online play. Set up your own regulated sites, then start cracking down on the others that do not process transactions through regulated channels. That said, I still hope the best for the future for American players. In the meantime, I welcome the stand up poker players that think about moving to Canada. I can think of no better group than stand up poker players who do so much for each other and do so much for charity.

to steve nonone in the usa wants to move to canada and watch icecurling and freeze 9 mos out of the year. the only issue here is why the usa govt has not allowed it law abiding , tax payers citizens the right to play poker on line ,. this should have been a money maker for the gov’t 10 years ago , I dont believe that there is a single usa citizen that could care less if the gov’t got their % like they do on all the bad products we have. now after running 5 miles Im watching the terrible mets on tv. they should be irrevelant by 5/10.

this whole this just shows how little freedom we have!

Don fisher says:

The true fact is that President Bush did sign this but while TOUTING BIPARTISANSHIP to a Majority leader Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi! it is the ENTIRE GOVT that has failed us! I DEFINITELY feel I have a right to speak up! As a live and online player! In the last week before this crap happened I won a seat to the WSOP on UB and FT! I am being told “sorry we will not be able to pay you until we get this problem resolved with your govt!” So now I am faced with the strong likelyhood I will miss the WSOP! Unless I get lucky enough to win a live satellite! The govt once again screws me over. I lost my company and had to lay off 80 employees in 2007 as a result of the subprime crisis and found myself with no income. No one wants to hire a former business owner. So I survive playing poker. I lick my wounds and after completing a Chapter 7 corp and personal BK try to rise from the ashes only to have the very people who allege to be trying to “help us” SCREW US OVER! There is no way this is fixed in 60 – 90 days. This will be another drawn out 2 -3 yea process until they figure out how to completely control the internet and our lives in every way! I filed my taxes I paid my taxes! This is TOTALLY WRONG what they are being allowed to do! What we all need to do is send a CLEAR message this coming election and vote out of office EVERY politician in every district that has opposed online gaming PERIOD!!! Wise up people VOTE and know who you are voting for! That is the only way this will ever change!

HI , Just a quick note to all the online poker shutdown really suckssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss I finally started winning at poker and then this . Could you imagine in 1850 if the goverment came into a saloon and tried to stop a game of poker ( they would be shot between the eyes like in the movie Fist full of dollars. These people who shut this down are bored people who sit back every evening and stuff there pie holes with ice cream and pizza and look in there mirrors with wonder. lol another activity i enjoy down the drain.
