Gus Hansen On Top at World Poker Tour World Championship

Gus Hansen is in full control following the completion of Day 3 at the World Poker Tour World Championship event at the Bellagio. Hansen’’s stack has risen to 2.24 million thanks in large part to a huge hand as play was winding down for the day.

Following a raise from Tim Phan and a call from another player Hansen, known for his aggressive play, re-raised. Phan was the only player to call. The flop came As 4s 3c and Phan checked. Hansen bet out 202,000 and Phan, who started the hand with more chips than Hansen, moved all in. Hansen eventually called and tabled Ac Kh while Phan showed Ah Qh. The turn and river brought blanks and Hansen moved his stack to over two million.

The day started with 188 players, saw the money bubble burst at 100 players and ended with only 55 players remaining. Some of the players who busted but did manage to cash were Daniel Negreanu, Phil Galfond, Joe Cassidy, Anna WroblewskiJared Hamby and 2006 Bluff Player-of-the-Year Chad Brown.

Tom “durrr” Dwan is again near the top with 805,000 despite seeing his stack go up and down all day. The chipleader heading into the day, Robert Mizrachi, is still in contention and sits in 10th with 701,000.

Day 4 will begin at Noon Las Vegas Time and will play down to the final 27 players.
