He’s Baaack: Justin ‘ZeeJustin’ Bonomo Playing Again at PokerStars

Justin 'ZeeJustin' Bonomo is back playing at PokerStars after having his ban from the site lifted after three years.

Justin Bonomo, who was banned from PokerStars in 2006 after an investigation revealed he had been entering multiple accounts into tournaments on the online poker site, is back at PokerStars and registered in the Spring Championship of Online Poker Event #1 Thursday afternoon after having his ban lifted by site management.

The ban went into effect in February 2006 after an investigation by PartyPoker revealed that Bonomo had registered upwards of six accounts in tournaments and played all accounts from the same IP address. Once that news became public PokerStars began their own investigation and discovered more multi-accounting by the then 20-year-old.

Both rooms confiscated winnings from Bonomo’s accounts and some estimates put the total at over $200,000. Only two months prior to the ban Bonomo had won the $500,000 Guaranteed on PokerStars for $137,000. The former Magic: The Gathering player used his blog to apologize for his actions and admit his mistake.

“I screwed up, on a practical, maturity and most importantly, ethical level. I’ve let everyone down including myself and for that I am very sorry,” Bonomo wrote. “The past month has been the hardest month of my life. I’ve never gone through anything like this before. In all facets of life, I’ve worked hard to develop a good honest reputation. But now that I’ve severely messed up, I have undone all that hard work.”

PokerStars has lifted the ban and allowed Bonomo back on the site, most likely as a result of Bonomo’s actions since his account privileges were revoked. Bonomo initially took some time away from poker and waited for his 21st birthday so he could begin playing live events in Las Vegas and Los Angeles. In October 2006 Bonomo went about repairing his image. At the Five Diamond Poker Classic at the Bellagio that December the young phenom showed he had the skill to play with the best players in the world. He made the final table in four events and cashed for a total of $265,000 and he narrowly missed making the televised final table of the World Poker Tour event.

He then made a final table in a preliminary event at the 2007 World Series of Poker and just before the final table was signed by online poker operator Bodog.com to wear a Bodog logo at the final table and for the duration of the WSOP. With his image nearly fully repaired Bonomo continued to negotiate with Bodog in hopes of securing a long term sponsorship agreement. In May 2008, just before the WSOP, Bonomo became a full time member of Team Bodog.

Now, nearly one year after an online poker room sponsored him, it appears that all is forgiven at PokerStars.

lame lame lame. no big deal since apparently, cheating, colluding, and just about anything is accepted in the world of online “poker”. i will keep my $$ on the real felt.

kevin says:

1 other thing; if this “poker” is regulated by the gov/gaming comish, this kind of nonsense could be punishable, and not just in a kangarooo court

john says:

again we see that a lowlife cheat is ok with the online poker world .he’s and those like himare the reason i will never play real money online.

Actually, I think you guys got this guy all wrong. He does not update his blog wrong, but this is a good kid. He really is. He made a mistake, who has not? I truly believe at the time he really was iggnorant of what he was doing and you know what, unlike some other former multi accounters or current ones, he manned up and did the whole apology thing the right way. This is very much a great thing for online poker and I am glad he is back. This is a good face for the game…who cares if he messed up…this is a good guy right here.

Brett says:

Update his blog often, typo* lol

This message is for Kevin and John. Have you ever heard the saying about missery loves company. Well, a good person always wants to see good in other people. When a person makes a mistake a good person wants to see them redeem themself and succeed and move on. A misererable person wants them to stay down. Both of you seem like bitter, miserable ugly people. I hope you get help!

Both of you seem like bitter, miserable, ugly people. Justin is a great poker player and a great person. He has NEVER been in any other trouble in his life! Yea he made a big mistake and I am sure you have made many. I hope that if you find yourself in a low point in YOUR life oneday that people will help you through it and show you kindness so that you can become a better person. NOBODY is baggage free! Remember that!

kevin says:

i didnt direct any comment at the guy, just online poker in general. as if he is the only one doing it!!!

cindy says:

Kevin, the most valuable lesson I ever learned in life was to Never leave a person without a since of dignity. Some of the biggest poker pros in the world have been in prison and told their stories and they are awesome people now. You may not have directed your comment to Justin, but it sounded like you did. I play poker on line everyday. I am quite sure I have not been cheated and I would bet my last dollar Justin will never cheat again! LOL dude! You r okay!

It’s good to see some redemption to this story. Justin could’ve never been heard from again, but he was determined to make his mark and has been granted a 2nd chance from what was previously probably a lifetime ban. I think it’s a positive story. Everyone is human. Justin served his time. Anyone too pious to recognize people can learn from their mistakes and mature and grow and contribute in a positive way will just have to suffer. GL Justin, but I don’t look forward to running into you at the tables, lol.

Dave.W says:

DISGUSTING!!!! If it wasnt a lifetime ban it should have been!!! Bring on government regulation as much as thats gonna probably suck after all the government screws up everything it touches anyway but if its already screwed up whats the difference? And what about all the people he screwed out of cash at cash tables playing 2 or more id’s where the hell is there money back????
