JC Tran Wins World Poker Challenge

JC Tran won his first World Poker Tour title last night at the World Poker Challenge championship event, ending a long streak of disappointing WPT final table finishes for the 30-year-old poker pro.

Tran (pictured*) eliminated four of his final five opponents on the road to his first WPT title, an accolade that comes with $683,473 and a seat to next month’s $25,000 buy-in WPT Championship in Las Vegas.

“I’m very satisfied, but playing the WPT is always a good challenge, so I’ll be back for more,” Tran told WPT blogger Gary Wise in an interview following his victory.

The win moves Tran into first place in this season’s WPT Player of the Year standings, a position he’ll need to maintain for just two more events to join the elite company of previous winners Howard Lederer, Erick Lindgren, Daniel Negreanu and Gavin Smith.

Final Results

1. JC Tran $683,473
2. Juan Carlos Avarado $366,798
3. David Pham $182,260
4. Mark Seif $159,478
5. John Hom $136,695
6. Danny Wong $113,913
