Lou Esposito Wins World Series of Poker Circuit Event in New Orleans
- BLUFF Staff | May 24, 2007
Lou Esposito won the World Series of Poker Circuit championship event at Harrah’s New Orleans last night after defeating the final nine of an original field of 346 players.
Esposito, a 31-year-old business owner from Howard Beach, New York, started the final table in sixth place on the chip count list but doubled up on the first hand of the day when he picked up pocket Aces against chip leader Phil Gordon’s Ace-King. Esposito went on to eliminate three of the nine final table players on his way to a heads-up match against 37-year-old Louisiana local Clint Schafer.
Esposito started the match with the lead but Schafer won a few big pots and at one point was sitting with a six-to-one chip advantage. Esposito doubled up twice on consecutive hands to take back the lead and 13 hands later eliminated Schafer in second place when his K-6 held up against Schafer’s 7-6 after a flop of 8-6-4.
Lou Esposito earns $516,801, a WSOPC Championship ring and a seat to the 2007 WSOP Main Event.
