Math Gurus Featured on Poker After Dark This Week
- Lance Bradley | February 9, 2009
Leeann Tweeden with the six players from this week's Poker After Dark cast.
The producers of NBC’s Poker After Dark are constantly coming up with new themes to keep viewers interested. The 40th week of episodes features something poker fans around the world have been clamoring for; more Bill Chen.
Joining Chen at the $20,000 buy-in winner-take-all table are five other players known for their mathematical, analytical approach to poker: reigning NBC National Heads-Up Championship winner Chris Ferguson, perennial runner-up Andy Bloch, poker author David Sklansky, high stakes cash game player Brandon Adams and little known Jimmy Warren.
Ferguson, who won the WSOP Main Event in 2000, has seven previous appearances on PAD including a single win. Bloch, who finished as the runner-up to Ferguson at the NBC Heads-Up event this past March, has yet to win in three previous appearances on PAD.
Chen, who won two WSOP bracelets in 2006, is the co-author of The Mathematics of Poker and currently works for an investment firm developing mathematical models used on many world markets. Warren might be the biggest unknown of the group. A Dartmouth graduate now living in Las Vegas, Warren specializes in Limit poker. For the past 20 years Warren has been beating Las Vegas cash games and is considered by some to be one of the best Limit game specialists.
Adams has made appearances on High Stakes Poker and had a deep run in the 2007 WSOP Main Event, finishing 69th for $130,288. The author of the poker novel Broke, Adams currently teaches applied game theory at Harvard. Rounding out the cast is the Theory of Poker author Sklansky.
The match will begin airing on NBC late night Monday at 2:05 a.m., February 9, and will continue for five consecutive nights in the same time slot. A special program called the “Director’s Cut” will air late night Saturday, February 14, at 1:00 a.m., right after Saturday Night Live. This show will feature Leeann Tweeden with a behind-the-scenes look at the week with highlights and insightful player interviews.
