Online Poker: “acatlover” Wins Full Tilt $750,000 Guaranteed

The action over at PokerStars’ World Championship of Online Poker may have drawn most of Sunday’s action as the $750,000 Guaranteed at Full Tilt Poker had an overlay of $21,400 thanks to a field of only 3,643 players. Here’s how the final table played out as “acatlover” took it down.

Chip counts and seating assignments

Seat 1: absolute6 (1,373,176)
Seat 2: Nicolak (368,773)
Seat 3: bighorn1973 (2,367,024)
Seat 4: gingabreadman (241,415)
Seat 5: acatlover (769,696)
Seat 6: mirasol (1,342,944)
Seat 7: RonJovi7 (1,618,664)
Seat 8: nounet (1,463,523)
Seat 9: gcnmoo (1,383,785)

Eliminated in 9th place: gcnmoo

With blinds of 25K/50K (6K ante) action folded around to nounet on the button who made it 150,000 to go. From the small blind gcnmoo moved all-in for 295,048 and nounet called.

gcnmoo: Ac Qc
nounet: Jc 9c

Flop: 8d 3s Jd
Turn: Js
River: Kd

Top pair on the flop turned into trips on the river for nounet and spelled the end of the line for gcnmoo. His ninth place finish earned him $10,500.

Eliminated in 8th place: mirasol

After seeing his stack dwindle to just 6,309 mirasol was all-in from the big blind when both nounet and acatlover called to see the flop. In hopes of eliminating mirasol, both players checked it down.

Flop: As 6s 7d
Turn: Ts
River: 7c

Acatlover: Jh 5d
nounet : Ad Jd
mirasol: mucked without showing

Nounet flopped top pair and made two pair when the board paired on the river to eliminate mirasol in eighth place. He collected $13,500.

Eliminated in 7th place: Nicolak

Blinds had not changed when Nicolak moved all-in from UTG+1 for 157,319 and nounet called from the big blind.

Nicolak: 6c 6h
nounet: 8s 8c

Flop: 3s 8h 5s
Turn: Qc
River: 3h

With only a two-outer Nicolak was drawing thin before the flop, but the 8h on the flop put a nail in the coffin of his run to the first place money. For busting in seventh place Nicolak took home $17,250.

Eliminated in 6th place: gingabreadman

After the first blind jump, to 30K/60K (7,500 ante), RonJovi7 raised to 155,000 from UTG+1 only to watch as gingabreadman went into the tank before moving all-in for 607,680. Without much hesitation RonJovi7 called the extra 452,680 to see the flop.

gingabreadman: 9d 9h
RonJovi7: Ah7h

Flop: Qc 3c Ac
Turn: 2d
River: 7c

Despite getting it in with by far the best of it, gingabreadman’s tournament ended with RonJovi7 flopped a ace. Unable to find one of the two remaining nines in the deck, gingabreadmane was forced to console himself with sixth place money, $23,025.

Eliminated in 5th place: bighorn1973

With four players already sent to the rail and blinds of 40K/80K (10K ante) bighorn1973 raised all-in to 485,750 from the button and RonJovi7 made the call from the big blind.

bighorn1973: Ah7s
RonJovi7: Kc Ts

Flop: Kh Th 4c
Turn: Jd
River: Td

Bighorn1973 fell victim to the best-hand curse which seemed to be haunting this table as RonJovi7 managed to flop two pair and fill up on the river. Fifth place paid $31,050.

Eliminated in 4th place: RonJovi7

After being the executioner on the last two eliminations RonJovi7 finally met his match, but not before some dramatics. Blinds were 60K/120K (15K ante) when RonJovi7 moved all-in from the button for 1,173,092, and nounet called from the small blind.

RonJovi7: 7c 6c
nounet: Kd Qs

Flop: 4c As 8c
Turn: Js
River: 8h

RonJovi7 again got it in with the worst hand only to flop a gutshot straight-flush draw. When both the turn and the river failed to produce another club, a seven, six or five RonJovi7 was ousted from the tournament in fourth place.

Eliminated in 3rd place: absolute6

For the first time at this final table an elimination was not the result of pre-flop action. Absolute6 made the button raise to 465,000 and acatlover called from the small blind.

Flop: 4h 9s 9c
After acatlover checked, absolute6 shoved all-in for 1,280,476 and acatlover called.

absolute6: Ks Jd
acatlover: Ac As

Turn: Ad
River: 9d

Slowplaying the aces before the flop turned out to work perfectly for acatlovers as absolute6 picked the wrong time to move all-in.  With absolute6 out in third place, acatlover headed to heads-up play with only half the chips of his opponent, nounet.

Eliminated in 2nd place: nounet

Despite starting heads-up play with a major chip disadvantage, acatlover stormed back to take control of the match. On the final hand of the night he got lucky to knockout nounet and take home the title. Acatlover opened the betting with a raise to 420,000. Nounet re-raised to 1,300,000 and after taking some time to consider his acton, acatlover moved all-in for 8,643,632; nounet called his last 945,368.

Acatlover: Ad 6c
nounet: Ac 8s

Flop: 6d Kc Qd
Turn: 2s
River: Td
