Online Poker: Antonius’ Downswing Continues

The hits just keep coming for Patrik Antonius. We’ve already mentioned the fact that he has dropped $1.8 million so far this year and is the biggest loser of 2010 thus far. We’ve also brought you up to speed on the past few Durrrr Challenge sessions, during which Tom “durrrr” Dwan maintained his advantage over the Finn and extended his lead to over $1 million.

Thanks to another Challenge session logged Monday night, Dwan’s lead now stands at $1,392,760.50 and with 17,205 hands to go, things are starting to look a little bleak for Antonius. It is not an impossible deficit for Antonius to overcome, but considering how he’s been running and how much Challenge play is left, it is a bit of a tall order. Hard to believe the guys have played their way thru essentially two-thirds of their prop bet. They logged 883 hands over almost three hours and it consisted mostly of small pots and sparring.

Antonius was able to cut his losses during the waning hours of the bout thanks to two pots in excess of $120,000, but durrrr battled back, taking down a nearly $135,000 hand half an hour before the session drew to a close. The biggest pot of the night went Antonius’ way, as he had luck on his side when he raked in $150,777.50:

Antonius began the hand with nearly $200,000 compared to Dwan’s $75,000. Dwan made a standard raise to $1,200 preflop and Antonius called. The flop fell Q74 and Antonius checked. Durrrr bet out $4,800 and Antonius called. He checked a second time once the J came on the turn and Dwan fired out $16,800. Antonius then check-raised to $67,200, enough to put Dwan all-in. Durrr called, tabling QQ53 for top set while Antonius revealed 3647 for bottom two pair and a gutshot. With Dwan holding a set, Antonius was left drawing to just a five in order to rake the pot. The river brought just that, the 5, and Antonius took the hand down.

The last six figure pot of the night saw a very similar situation, except this time Dwan’s hand held up. Holding over $200,000 to Antonius’ $67,000, Dwan raised to $1,200 preflop and Antonius called. The cards came down J63 and Antonius led out for $2,400. Durrrr raised to $8,500 total and Antonius called. The money went in after the A hit on the turn and Antonius revealed AJ34 for three pair while Dwan held Q667 for a set of sixes and a flush draw. The river brought the Q and the $134,339.50 pot was pushed his way.

Dwan’s biggest hand of the night came when he check-called bets on every street as Antonius fired away holding a big straight draw. Holding just a pair of deuces on the flop, Dwan improved to trips on the turn, which was enough to rake in the $146,399.50 pot on the river.

If these rough sessions continue for Antonius, he is going to be out a lot more than the $500,000 he will owe Dwan for winning the bet. Considering he is the top online earner of 2009, he certainly has the skill set to rally back, the real question is: will he have the time?
