Online Poker: Anybodybut17, PiKappRaider Thrive in Micro-Mil
- Jessica Welman | February 15, 2010
The epic $4 million guarantee Sunday Million is still a week away, but PokerStars was certainly able to draw a crowd with its Micro-Million, a $40 buy-in event celebrating the site’s 40 billionth hand. The tournament drew an astounding 40,864 entrants, crushing the $1 million guarantee with a $1,511,968 prize pool. An impressive number of notable names made unbelievable runs to navigate through the vast majority of the massive field and some of them were even fortunate enough to make it to the final table. Eugene “genetodd” Todd, Sebastian “skuja” Skuja and Steve “PiKappRaider” Burkholder all made the final nine and Burkholder came up just close of the big win, finishing in 2nd place to anybodybut17, whose biggest cash before today was worth just over $1,000.
The stacked final table of the Micro Million may have caught the eye of the railbirds, but it wasn’t the only event going on this Sunday. In addition to a host of FTOPS XV events, there was also the standard PokerStars and UB Poker fare like the Sunday Million and the $200K GTD. Blompf claimed the Million crown after a two-way chop with oldrick88, while BEARBEER bested Jesse “TOOHOTTOTROT” Haabak for the UB $200K title.
Also at the UB $200K final table was Nick “I SPEW CHIPS” Phillips, who stayed rather busy this Sunday. He racked up a 3rd place finish on UB and immediately turned around and logged another 3rd place finish in the PokerStars Sunday Second Chance. Also pulling double final table duty was Frank “RaineTech” Calo. He defeated Phillips and runner-up Matt “cwp394” Ross to earn the outright win the Second Chance and also final tabled the Sunday 500, where he finished in 5th place. The Sunday 500 proved to be a stacked final table with the likes of Jeremy “thechemist83” Gaubert (2nd), Jeremiah “Believer82” Vinsant (3rd), Nick “FU_15” Maimon (7th), Team PokerStars Pro JC Alvarado (8th) and James “croll103” Carroll (9th).

PokerStars F40 Micro Million ($40 buy-in)
Prize Pool: $1,511,968
Entrants: 40,864
Seat 1: 123-Gabriel (13,248,762)
Seat 2: veryking (85,815,001)
Seat 3: matakoda (45,142,564)
Seat 4: anybodybut17 (18,958,916)
Seat 5: Sebastian “skuja” Skuja (87,825,754)
Seat 6: tpir90036 (30,803,790)
Seat 7: Steve “PiKappRaider” Burkholder (71,101,301)
Seat 8: bwiner (36,399,066)
Seat 9: Eugene “genetodd” Todd (19,344,846)
No, those chip stacks aren’t typos. With over 40,000 players in the field, there was inevitably quite a lot of chips on the final table, but don’t let those big stacks lead you to believe there was a ton of play to be had. When the final nine combined to the last table, blinds were up to 1 million/2 million ante 100,000.
Gabriel-123 quickly doubled up when his A
J
held up against matakoda’s A
8
. Things only got worse for matakoda, who moved all-in from the hijack for 28 million holding A
Q
and Steve “PiKappRaider” Burkholder called in the big blind with J
J
. The board ran out K
3
2
4
2
and matakoda was out in 9th place.
Eugene “genetodd’ Todd was the next to double up, followed by anybodybut17. Anybodybut17’s double up put him over 40 million chips and he picked up over 30 million more when he got it all-in holding K
K
to bwiner’s A
Q
. The kings held to eliminate bwiner in 8th and jump up to nearly 80 million in chips and they just kept coming his way. Anybodybut17 got another knockout and an additional 25 million chips when Gabriel-123 ran his K
K
into anybodybut17’s A
A
to go out in 7th place.
It was PiKappRaider’s turn to pick up the cowboys when, with the blinds at 1.5 million/3 million ante 300,000, he reraised all-in over the top of Sebastian “skuja” Skuja’s opening raise. Skuja had PiKappRaider’s 71 million chips covered and called with A
Q
. PiKappRaider’s K
K
held to knock skuja down to under 17 million chips. Skuja managed to double up twice to get back over 60 million, but lost half of it doubling up genetodd holding K
J
to genetodd’s A
J
.
Tpir90036 was the new short stack at the table with six players remaining, but got lucky with his K
6
to double through veryking and his T
T
. Tpir90036 then got lucky again, this time against skuja. The duo got it all-in preflop in a blind vs blind confrontation with tpir90036 holding A
T
to skuja’s A
K
. The flop fell Q
J
6
to give each player a gut shot. The K
on the turn completed tpir90036’s straight draw and a K
on the river meant tpir90036 would double up again. He finished skuja off the very next hand to trim the field to five and take over the chip lead from veryking.
PiKappraider, veryking and tpir90036 traded the chip lead around during 5-handed play while genetodd was just looking for a good spot to double up. He took his stand, shoving al-in for his last 34 million with Q
T
. Anybodybut17 called in the big blind with A
K
and left genetodd drawing dead after the flop fell A
K
K
. Todd was out in 5th and the final four players stopped to talk chop.
The group agreed to a deal that gave each of them $75,618 and set an extra $20,000 for the winner. There was a slight problem though—veryking was very disconnected. Support managed to get ahold of his family and get the Russian back online in time to agree to the deal and get play underway again. The first big showdown of 4-handed play came when tpir90036 opened for a raise at the 2.5 million/5 million blind level and PiKappRaider shoved all-in for 82.5 million on the button. Tpir90036 called with 8
8
, leaving 33 million behind. He was raising with PiKappRaider’s K
Q
,which managed to pair up as the board ran out A
6
4
K
4
to give PiKappRaider a big chip lead. He got the rest of tpir90036’s stack just a few hands later and became the first player to cross the 200 million chip threshold.
The momentum just kept swinging PiKappRaider’s way. Veryking raised on the button and PiKappRaider put him all-in for his remaining 100 million from the big blind. Veryking called with Q
Q
and PiKappRaider and his K
2
needed help. He got it too. The flop and turn were an innocuous J
T
4
8
, but the K
on the river gave PiKappRaider the pot and knocked veryking out in 3rd place.
PiKappRaider held a more than 6-1 chip advantage going into heads-up play, but anybodybut17 doubled up on the very first hand of heads up play to get up over 100 million chips. From there, anybodybut17 just kept accumulating chips and quickly pulled even with PiKappRaider. The final hand of play came when the duo got it all-in with both players holding an ace. PiKappraider’s A
2
trailed anybodybut17’s A
9
and things only got more dire for Bukrholder after the flop came down 9
9
3
. Burkholder was drawing dead and had to settle for a runner-up finish, while anybodybut17 collected the $95,816 first place prize.
