Online Poker: Cereus Network Bans Players From Kentucky

The government of Kentucky can claim its first major win after Tokwiro Enterprises, owners of UltimateBet.com and AbsolutePoker.com, announced Tuesday they would no longer allow residents of Kentucky to play online poker on their sites.

The move comes as a result of the legal battle being waged in Kentucky over the attempted seizure of 141 gambling-related domain names. The Franklin County Circuit Court’s recently ordered sites to restrict access via IP Block to all residents of Kentucky.

“We have taken this action in order to ensure that the vast number of our customers, who do not reside in Kentucky, continue to have access to our sites and to enjoy playing online poker without disruption or inconvenience.”

The Block will prevent players with IP addresses originating inside the Commonwealth of Kentucky from playing using AP and UB software, logging in or registering a new account, making deposits to the cashier, and transferring or receiving funds from other players. All players will be able to withdraw funds but not be able to initiate any new transactions.

An appeal hearing scheduled for December 12 could ultimately allow both UB and AP to return to the Kentucky market. Affected players were informed of this on Monday morning via email.
