Online Poker: Isildur1 Wins $800K, Loses $900K
- Jessica Welman | February 18, 2010
It was only a couple of days ago that we filled you in on the high-profile bouts between Isildur1 and Isaac “luvtheWNBA” Haxton and Justin “ZeeJustin” Bonomo. We recapped his busy day of action, which included a successful run at the $200/$400 CAP PLO tables, a $90,000 losing session against Haxton and a monstrous $550,000 win against Bonomo.
It appears there is no rest for the wear, nor the Swedish, as Isildur1 has logged over 11,000 hands since Valentine’s Day. Over the past 48 hours, his bankroll has gone on quite the roller coaster ride, ballooning up an additional $800,000 before taking a brutal $950,000 hit in the span of just a few hours. High profile bouts with Bonomo, Brian Townsend and a much anticipated rematch with Brian Hastings all went down on Tuesday and Wednesday, and when the dust settled on Isildur1’s latest spat of poker, he was still up for the month by more than $550,000…at least for the moment.
On Tuesday, Isildur1 decided to put his newfound wealth to use by jumping up stakes to $300/$600 PLO, firing up six heads-up tables with Hastings, whom you may remember nabbed more than $4 million off Isildur1 back in December thanks to an epic, if not slightly controversial, online session. Isildur1 may not have taken seven figures off of Hastings on Tuesday, but he did take the Cardrunners instructor for over $450,000 back thanks to winning some of the biggest pots of the session, including this one, worth almost $275,000:
In the biggest hand of the match, a series of five preflop raises resulted in Hastings shoving $137,000 all-in preflop holding K

flop connected with both players, bringing two pair for Hastings and a big straight draw for Isildur1. The 5
on the turn was a total blank, but the K
on the river made Isildur1’s straight and gave him the $274,197 pot.
Once Isildur1 was done winning almost half a million dollars off Hastings, he took a relatively small profit of $130,000 off Ilari “Ziigmund” Sahamies and even found some time to sit at the PLO tables with one of his favorite opponents, Tom “durrrr” Dwan. He was faring quite well against durrrr, even picking up a $250,000 pot off of him, but tried to convince Dwan to switch the action over to what most will agree is Isildur1’s strong suit, NLHE. Dwan wasn’t having it though and, after some debate in the chat box, no No Limit match materialized.

Townsend is still down $1 mil in 2010, even after winning $650K off Isildur1
Isildur1’s Tuesday profits put him up well over $1 million in two days, but he lost a substantial chunk of that money after his fortune turned on Wednesday. A rematch with Bonomo resulted in Isildur1 dropping just over $225,000 back to the BLUFF contributor and helped Bonomo to have one his best days ever online.
Isildur1 also helped to turn things around for Brian Townsend, who has been struggling at the online tables so far this year. The duo took to four $300/$600 PLO tables and, in less than two hours, Townsend won more than $650,000 off the Mystery Swede. A good chunk of that profit game from a massive $415,000 pot that went a little like this:
Sitting with $360,000 to Isildur1’s $208,000, Townsend raised to $1,800 preflop and Isildur1 reraised to $5,400 total. Townsed called and the two saw the flop fall K

. Isildur1 led out for $7,800, Townsend raised to $24,600 and Isildur1 popped it up once again, making it $84,600 to go. Townsend called and then the turn fell T

for a set of sixes and a gutshot Broadway draw. The river 2
made a heart flush for Townsend and the $415,985.50 pot went his way.
These ups and downs have become par for the course for Isildur1, so we’re guessing a $900,000 losing day is not going to keep him away from the tables for too long. After all, he is still up half a million dollars this month, which is a far cry from the past month and a half where he was dropping $25,000 at a time at the $5/$10 tables.

The article is actually wrong at the end. It says that Townsend turned a straight when the 10c fell. Actually Isildur1 was ahead about 58% on the turn with his set of 6s and Townsend only had flush and straight draws (since all you know, in Omaha you have to use only two cards out of the four). Just thought I’d point that out so it didn’t confuse anyone not familiar with Omaha.
Whoops! Thanks for catching the error, it is much appreciated. Post should be updated and fixed now.
Great coverage Jessica! Always look forward to updates. Is there any way of knowing when there is action so we can watch….Twitter?
