Online Poker: SCOTTYDOG25 & MIGUEL_PRADO Latest UBOC Winners

Now that the weekend is in full swing, so is the UB Online Poker Championships (UBOC). Today the tournament action got an early start with Event #5, a $1,000 buy-in heads-up tournament hosted by Eric Baldwin. The tournament drew 171 players, which was more than enough to surpass the $128,000 guarantee and generate a prize pool of $171,000.

Baldwin may not have made a deep run in the event, but a fellow UB Poker pro many are familiar with did make quite a run in the event. The Poker Brat himself,  Phil Hellmuth, made it to the quarter finals of heads-up play, but was the first one out in the round, resulting in an 8th place finish. Other players who made it to the top 32, but failed to end up in the final four included Michael “ROCK3656” Rocco (19th) and David “ComptonMasta” Barter (28th).

Once play got down to the final four, Jared “SOXNATION83” Mahoney was pitted against MIGUEL_PRADO while _ADVANCED faced off against SHIPHERO. Both bouts saw the chips go back and forth with each player coming close to elimination only to rally back to stay alive. Each player began with 192,000 chips and, though they often dipped below the 100,000 mark, the blinds were small enough that they had enough time to work their way back up to starting stack. After dropping down as low as 80,000 chips, MIGUEL_PRADO managed to rally back to defeat SOXNATION83 and secure a spot in the finals. _ADVANCED also rallied back from under 85,000 in order to best SHIPHERO and set up the final showdown:

Each player began the final match with 384,000 chips and the blinds at 1,280/2,560. With 150 big blinds a piece, there was plenty of room to play, but it only took five hands before the two clashed in a sizeable pot. MIGUEL_PRADO minraised preflop, _ADVANCED called and the two saw a flop of 886. _ADVANCED checked, MIGUEL_PRADO made a small bet and _ADVANCED check-raised an additional 11,000 chips. MIGUEL_PRADO called and the two saw the turn come 6. Both players checked and saw the river come 4. MIGUEL_PRADO bet out 15,000 and _ADVANCED made a hero call with KQ, which was good against MIGUEL_PRADO’s busted straight draw with 79.

MIGUEL_PRADO regained the chip lead with the first 100,000 chip pot of the match a short while later. _ADVANCED minraised from the button, MIGUEL_PRADO called and the flop fell 764. _ADVANCED bet a fiendish 6,666 chips, MIGUEL_PRADO raised to 15,000 and _ADVANCED called. The turn brought the 9 and MIGUEL_PRADO led out for almost 30,000. _ADVANCED called and both players checked when the 8 hit on the river. MIGUEL_PRADO showed 25 for a rivered eight-high straight and _ADVANCED mucked.

The next big pot did go _ADVANCED’s way though. MIGUEL_PRADO minraised preflop, _ADVANCED repopped it to 16,500 and MIGUEL_PRADO called. In a déjà vu moment, the flop came down 886, much like their first big altercation. _ADVANCED bet out 18,900, MIGUEL_PRADO called and the turn came 7. _ADVANCED bet again, MIGUEL_PRADO called again. The river brought the T and _ADVANCED fired out a 75,000 chip bet. That was enough to get MIGUEL_PRADO to fold and _ADVANCED netted the 120,800 chip pot. While it brought him back in contention with his opponent, MIGUEL_PRADO pulled away once again and held the chip lead as the match wore on.

The small pots continued a little while longer until a massive pot ended the match in the blink of an eye. With the blinds up to 1,920/3,480 MIGUEL_PRADO minraised preflop and _ADVANCED called from the big blind. _ADVANCED checked the 843 flop and MIGUEL_PRADO bet 7,680. _ADVANCED called and checked again after the J peeled off on the turn. MIGUEL_PRADO bet out 19,200, _ADVANCED check-raised to 62,000 and MIGUEL_PRADO moved all-in having his opponent easily covered. _ADVANCED called and tabled J8 for a turned two pair while MIGUEL_PRADO revealed 33 for a set of threes. The river brought the Q and MIGUEL_PRADO scooped the pot, the match and the top prize of $46,170.

Here are the top eight finishers in the UBOC Heads-Up event:

The other event of the day was a $150 Triple Chance No Limit Hold’em event with a guaranteed prize pool of $100,000. For the first time this series, UB Poker had to cough up a little extra cash to meet the guarantee, as only 459 players signed up and generated only 160 rebuys. The site put up just over $7,000 to push the prize pool for UBOC Event #6 into the six figures and the action was fast and furious as the field played down to the final table. Players who made deep runs but came up short included Jeremy “THECHEMIST83” Gaubert (36th) and Joe “CHADBATISTA_” Urgo (13th). Gary “DEBO34” DeBernardi had the best showing of the UB pros with his 49th place finish, but he just missed the money, as only the top 45 spots paid.  In the end it was SCOTTYDOG25 who took the top prize of nearly $25,000 with his outright victory at the final table.
