Online Poker: Steven “KUNKLES27″ Bartley Nabs Event #3 Crown

There was only one tournament on the UB Online Poker Championship (UBOC) series schedule today, but with 4-handed tables, UBOC Event #3 had more than enough play to appease even the most degenerate action junkie. Once again, the $300 buy-in tournament easily surpassed its $100,000 guarantee with 476 runners and a $142,800 prize pool.

Gary “DEBO34″ DeBernardi served as the host of the event and the player able to knock him out of the tournament would receive their buy-in back. DEBO34 refused to give up his bounty without a fight though and made it all the way to 29th place before busting out. He was one of the 52 players to make the money in the event, as were Smith “NEVERTILT22” Collins (20th), Michael “MOSSIFIED84” Skomac (24th) and Joshua “BBBBB33” Weizer (27th).

With the elimination of HIGHBURY90 in 5th place, the final table was set and it was Evan PURPLEPILS99″ Parkes battling for the chip lead with BRBLONDE2020. Those two were the big stacks at the outset of final table play, but it would be Steven “KUNKLES27″ Bartley who would walk away with the biggest piece of the prize pool:

Seat 1 – Evan “PURPLEPILS99” Parkes (524,776 in chips)
Seat 2 - BRBLONDE2020 (573,237 in chips)
Seat 3 – Steven “KUNKLES27” Bartlett (125,491 in chips)
Seat 4 - DONKMAGNET55 (204,496 in chips)

Steven “KUNKLES27” Bartley came into the final table on the short stack, but still had plenty of room to maneuver since the blinds were at a relatively low 3,000/6,000 ante 600. KUNKLES27 also had the benefit of taking down a big pot early on when BRBLONDE2020 raised on the button and KUNKLES27 made it almost 49,000 to go from the small blind. BRBLONDE2020 called and the duo saw a flop of A63. Both players checked and they saw the 8 fall on the turn. KUNKLES27 checked again and BRBLONDE2020 bet out 12,000. KUNKLES27 min-raised to 24,000 and BRBLONDE2020 called. The river brought the Q and KUNKLES27 shoved all-in for almost 55,000. BRBLONDE2020 folded and KUNKLES27 raked the 150,000 chip pot.

Just a few hands later the final table saw its first all-in preflop showdown. KUNKLES27 raised from under the gun and DONKMAGNET55 reraised to around 40,000 from the button. KUNKLES moved all-in for 22,534, which had DONKMAGNET55’s remaining 182,000 covered. DONKMAGNET55 called with 33 and was racing against KUNKLES27’s AQ. The board ran out Q7556 and KUNKLES27’s pair of queens raked the pot.  A short stacked DONKMAGNET55 would later bust out in 4th place.

The remaining three players then paused the clock and very quickly reached a deal in which they would each take $23,871 and play for the remaining $3,000. Less than a dozen hands after the deal was set, another massive preflop coin flip saw another player hit the rail. BRBLONDE2020 min raised on the button and Evan “PURPLEPILS99” Parkes reraised to 36,666. BRBLONDE2020 4-bet to 91,322 and PURPLEPILS99 moved all-in having BRBLONDE2020 easily covered. BRBLONDE2020 called with QQ and PURPLEPILS99 held AK. The KJ8 flop brought a pair of kings for Parkes and the 3 was no help to BRBLONDE2020. The J on the river shipped the 830,000 chip pot to PURPLEPILS99 and the event was down to heads-up play.

PURPLEPILS99 had 951,000 chips to KUNKLES27’s 476,000, but KUNKLES27 quickly took the chip lead. PURPLEPILS99 rallied when he raised to 21,000 preflop and KUNKLES27 called. The flop brought a board of 762 and PURPLEPILS99 fired a bet of 21,000. KUNKLES27 called and the two saw a turn of 9. Both players checked and the river brought the 6. PURPLEPILS99 checked, KUNKLES27 made a small bet of 14,000 and PURPLEPILS99 check-raised to almost 150,000. KUNKLES27 called and mucked his K7 for two pair when PURPLEPILS99 showed K6 for trip sixes.

After a long stretch of small pots, an epic heads-up cooler virtually locked up the match for KUNKLES27. Preflop PURPLEPILS99 raised to 21,000, KUNKLES27 reraised to 91,000 and PURPLEPILS99 moved all-in having KUNKLES27 covered by around 130,000. KUNKLES27 quickly called and tabled AA, which had PURPLEPILS99’s AK in bad shape. The board ran out 6546J and PURPLEPILS99 was left with 126,000 chips while KUNKLES27 scooped the 1.3 million chip pot.

PURPLEPILS99 was able to double up when he raised to 14,000 preflop and KUNKLES27 called from the big blind. The flop fell 975 and KUNKLES27 bet out 14,000. PURPLEPILS99 reraised all-in and KUNKLES27 called with T8 for an open-ended straight draw while PURPLEPILS showed Q7 for middle pair. The sevens held as the board ran out A then A and PURPLEPILS99 doubled up to 270,000.

PURPLEPILS99’s renaissance would be short-lived though. A short while later KUNKLES27 raised to 21,000 preflop and PURPLEPILS99 shoved all-in. KUNKLES27 called with A7, which had the best of PURPLEPILS99’s Q9 at the moment. The flop was a relatively harmless J85, but it did give PURPLEPILS99 a gutshot straight draw. The turn brought the K and the 2 on the river ensured victory for KUNKLES while PURPLEPILS99 had to settle for second place.

Here are the complete results from the final table of UBOC Event #3:
