Online Poker: SUPERPROP123 Ends On Top in UBOC Event #4
- Jessica Welman | January 23, 2010
Maybe there just weren’t any good movies coming out this weekend. Or maybe the rain pouring across the West Coast convinced people to stay at home. Whatever the explanation may be, there were more than double the people UB Poker expected playing in Event #4 of the UB Online Poker Championship (UBOC). The $120 buy-in Sniper No Limit Hold’em event was hosted by Absolute Poker’s Lacey Jones and Trishelle Cannatella. The event featured a $30 bounty on each player’s head as well as a $30,000 guarantee. With 721 total entrants, the field more than doubled the guaranteed amount with a prize pool worth $86,520 including bounties and a first place prize of $16,763.25.
The last UB Poker Pro standing was Scott Ian in 81st place, but a friend of UB found himself at the final table. Annie Duke’s paramour Joe “JOEUGLY” Reitman was one of the nine lucky souls who made it to the final table, though he was one of the shorter stacks heading into final table play:

Seat 1 - LOLA2425 (273,163 in chips)
Seat 2 – Joe “JOEUGLY” Reitman (125,670 in chips)
Seat 3 - HOYAZO (405,929 in chips)
Seat 4 - THISTLE66 (106,018 in chips)
Seat 5 – Jay “J_HASTHENUTS” Conley (221,867 in chips)
Seat 6 - DONKIMAN (90,582 in chips)
Seat 7 - SUPERPROP123 (439,378 in chips)
Seat 8 - BEATDOWNCOMIN (148,377 in chips)
Seat 9 - ILUVBECKYARF (352,016 in chips)
Blinds at the final table began at 3,500/7,000 ante 700, which meant most everyone had plenty in their stack to see some flops and make some moves. BEATDOWNCOMIN got an early double up when Jay “J_HASTHENUTS” Conley ran his pocket nines into BEATDOWNCOMIN’s pocket aces. The two essentially swapped stack sizes and J_HASTHENUTS dropped to under 130,000. It was THISTLE66 who had the shortest stack at 73,000. THISTLE66 shipped that stack all-in over the top of an opening raise from LOLA2425. J_HASTHENUTS reraised all-in behind him and LOLA2425. J_HASTHENUTS had just about the preflop nuts with his K
K
while THISTLE66 showed A
Q
. The flop favored THISTLE66 though, as it came down A
6
4
. THISTLE66 only improved with the Q
on the turn and the 5
on the river ensured his double up while J_HASTHENUTS was left with just 25,000 chips.
A few hands later J_HASTHENUTS minraised, leaving just 5,000 chips behind. ILUVBECKYARF called from the big blind and the rest of the money went in on the 6
2
2
flop. J_HASTHENUTS once again had a premium hand with A
K
while ILUVBECKYARF showed J
7
. The 2
on the turn changed nothing, but the 7
on the river made a boat for ILUVBECKYARF and J_HASTHENUTS was out in 9th place.
Like J_HASTHENUTS, DONKIMAN had a rough go of things at the final table. He was the short stack to begin with and won only a single pot during his time at the final table. His stack dwindled down to just 9,000 chips, which went all-in when he picked up a pocket pair of sixes. THISTLE66 called the all-in bet with K
Q
, which triumphed over the small pair as the board ran out K
Q
9
7
9
. DONKIMAN was out in 8th place and THISTLE66 picked up the pot.
The blinds were up to 4,000/8,000 ante 800 when Joe “JOEUGLY” Reitman made a big opening raise to 56,000 in early position, leaving 100,000 behind. HOYAZO reraised enough to put JOEUGLY all-in and JOEUGLY called with A
T
. HOYAZO had him in bad shape with A
K
and when the board failed to bring a ten, JOEUGLY was out in 7th place while HOYAZO overtook the chip lead from SUPERPROP123. HOYAZO extended that chip lead even further when he opened for a raise from the small blind and THISTLE66 reraised all-in from the big for an additional 160,000. HOYAZO quickly called with A
K
while THISTLE66 held A
8
. The board ran out A
K
7
Q
9
and THISTLE66 made his exit in 7th place.
After the knockout, HOYAZO hit his peak with 350,000 more chips than his next closest competitor. Then, everything began to unravel. HOYAZO dropped a number of pots in excess of 100,000 chips and gradually dwindled down to 320,000. Then, with the blinds at 6,000/12,000 ante 1,200, ILUVBECKYARF opened for a raise to 30,000 on the button and HOYAZO called from the big blind. The flop fell Q
5
2
and HOYAZO checked. ILUVBECKYARF bet out 60,000 and HOYAZO check-raised almost all-in, leaving just 1,000 chips behind. ILUVBECKYARF reraised to get the last of the chips in there and HOYAZO was forced to call with his 6
7
for just seven high. ILUVBECKYARF, on the other hand, held the overpair with A
A
. The 7
on the turn had HOYAZO drawing live, but the 4
on the river was no help and HOYAZO hit the rail.
LOLA2425 and ILUVBECKYARF clashed once play got three handed when ILUVBECKYARF raised from the small blind and LOLA2425 called from the big. Both players checked the 6
4
2
flop and ILUVBECKYARF fired out a bet after the J
peeled on the turn. LOLA245 called and the two saw the river come 8
. ILUVBECKY made a pot-sized bet and LOLA2425 moved all-in for 400,000. ILUVBECKYARF called and mucked when LOLA2425 showed Q
T
for a backdoor flush.
ILUVBECKYARF was able to double through LOLA2425 shortly thereafter to get back up to almost 600,000 chips. While these two were scrapping to pick up chips where they could, SUPERPROP123 began to pull away, crossing the 1.2 million threshold while the other two both dropped under 500,000 chips. SUPERPROP123’s dominating run continued when LOLA2425 raised from the small blind, SUPERPROP123 repopped out of the big blind and LOLA2425 moved all-in for almost 600,000 total. SUPERPROP123 called with 6
6
and he was racing with LOLA2425’s A
J
. The flop fell K
7
2
, which was a bit uninteresting considering neither player held a club in their hand. The turn brought the 6
and left LOLA2425 drawing dead though, as well as out in 3rd place.
When heads-up play began SUPERPROP123 held a remarkable 6-1 chip advantage over ILUVBECKYARF. ILUVBECKYARF managed to double up early on when his A
Q
held up against SUPERPROP123’s K
J
, but ILUVBECKYARF would be unable to overcome the massive chip disadvantage in the end.
Just eight hands later, the two players would play their final hand. ILUVBECKY ARF raised out of the small blind, SUPERPROP123 called form the big and the two saw a flop of 9
8
3
. SUPERPROP123 checked, ILUVBECKYARF bet out and SUPERPROP123 check-raised to 130,000 total. ILUVBECKYARF called and the duo saw a turn of 3
. SUPERPROP123 bet enough to put ILUVBECKYARF all-in for his last 300,000 and ILUVBECKYARF called with K
8
for eights and treys. SUPERPROP123 revealed 8
9
for a superior two pair, eights and nines, and ILUVBECKYARF would need a king on the river to stay alive. The river instead brought the 2
and ILUVBECKYARF had to settle for second place while SUPERPROP123 took down the 4th event of the series.
Here are the complete results from the final table of UBOC Event #4:
1st: SUPERPROP123 ($16,763.25)
2nd: ILUVBECKYARF ($10,274.25)
3rd: LOLA2425 ($6,849.50)

7th: Joe “JOEUGLY” Reitman ($2,523.50)
8th: DONKIMAN ($1,802.50)
