DAILY BUZZ: Rush Poker, Obama’s Irish Invite, Play For Haiti at UB
- Jason Kirk | January 19, 2010
Welcome to the BLUFF Daily Buzz, where we scour the entire internet for all the latest news in and around the world of poker. If it involves chips and cards, or people known to associate with chips and cards, we’re there.
Full Tilt introduces new Rush Poker tables

Chris Ferguson says Full Tilt's new game is the greatest innovation in online poker ever
Action junkies rejoice – you can now play four times as many hands per hour thanks to a new feature at Full Tilt Poker. Rush Poker gets rid of all the downtime normally associated with playing the game, moving players to a new table every time they fold.
“Rush Poker is the greatest innovation in online poker since poker started on the Internet,” Team Full Tilt member and 2000 WSOP Main Event champ Chris Ferguson said in a press release announcing the new game. “Rush Poker is an amazingly fast-paced game. You always have a decision to make; you’re never waiting for other players to finish the hand.”
Unlike standard ring games where the same opponents face each other over and over, Rush Poker players join a large pool and face a new table with different players every hand. With the addition of a Quick Fold button, which allows players to fold and move to the next table without waiting for the action to finish at the current table, some players are reportedly seeing as many as 350 hands per hour.
Full information on Rush Poker, including more esoteric details like how the software handles mutli-tabling and how it keeps players from posting the big blind too often, is available at the Full Tilt website.
Irish Open sponsor invites Obama to the table
First organized in 1980, the Irish Open is the second-longest running tournament in all of poker behind only the WSOP. Now, thirty years after its first running, the tournament may have just become the first to extend an invitation to play to a sitting U.S. president.
Following a fine tradition among international poker tournaments like the Asian Poker Tour, which has twice invited Olympic swimming champ Michael Phelps to play its Macau event, Irish Open sponsor Paddy Power has invited President Barack Obama to come to Dublin in April and play in the venerable tourney. They’ve even gone so far as to pledge an extra $1 million for the prize pool if Obama, a confessed poker player, shows up to take a seat.
“With a name like O’Bama there has to be a strong Irish connection,” the Emerald Isle bookie said in a press release. “So we’re hoping that if the President has business on this side of the Atlantic at the start of April he may just stop by and try his luck.”
UB, Absolute to host Haiti charity tournament this week

Annie Duke and the rest of Team UB will Play For Haiti this Wednesday
Tokwiro Enterprises, owner of UB.com and Absolute Poker, announced today that the two online poker rooms will co-host a Play For Haiti tournament this Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. ET.
The entire prize pool $5 turbo rebuy tournament of the tournament will be donated to the Red Cross Haiti Disaster Relief Fund, and Tokwiro has pledged a donation matching 100% of the money contributed by players. The top 54 finishers in the Play For Haiti event will receive prizes ranging from satellite tickets for the UB Online Championship Main Event to a $2,600 UBOC $1 Million Guarantee entry.
“Along with the rest of the world, we’ve watched the headlines and news unfold with growing horror as the magnitude of the devastation in Haiti has been revealed,” said Paul Leggett, Tokwiro’s Chief Operations Officer. “We believe we have a duty to do what we can to help raise funds and awareness for the plight of the people of Haiti, and our ‘Play for Haiti’ tournament is one small way we can work with our players to contribute.”
Charity is nothing new to the members of Team UB; Annie Duke co-founded Ante Up For Africa with actor Don Cheadle, while Phil Hellmuth routinely turns up at charity events around the country to lend a hand raising money for worthy causes.
