PokerStars Million Dollar Challenge Show to Debut Saturday
- Lance Bradley | October 9, 2009
All that stands in the way of you and a million dollar payday from PokerStars.com is a Playboy bunny, an MMA legend, an NFL running back and four of the world’s most succesful poker players. That’s the concept behind the PokerStars Million Dollar Challenge TV show which debuts on FOX this Sunday.
The show gives online qualifiers the chance to play a heads-up match against the likes of former Playmate of the Year Jayde Nicole, Pittsburgh Steeler legend Jerome Bettis and former UFC champion Tito Ortiz in the first round. Should the contestand win that match they’ll have to face either Vanessa Rousso, Barry Greenstein or Chris Moneymaker in the second round. Winning that match could put the contestant up against Daniel Negreanu in two heads-up matches.
Winning all four rounds will earn the contestant $1,000,000 but there are prizes for each match one. Defeating the celebrity in the first round sends the contestant to the Bahamas for the 2010 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure while winning in the second round is worth $25,000 cash. During the first two rounds contestants will be coached by Negreanu who will earn $10,000 for charity for each match he helps the contestant win.
Things get a little more serious when the contestant steps in against Negreanu. Winning the first match against the four-time WSOP bracelet winner puts $100,000 into the pocket of the contestant – but only at the risk at walking away without the previously earned cash. Losing to Negreanu means the contestant is still going to PCA but doesn’t pocket $25,000. Making the final round gives the contestant a shot at a life-changing $1,000,000 cash.
“I’m thrilled to be part of this show. I love the concept and I know that it will be packed with great poker and all the bells and whistles, hip graphics and drama that FOX is known for,” said Negreanu.
The final round includes the four contestants that made it through the first four shows playing in a sit-n-go for the right to play Negreanu heads-up for hte $1,000,000 prize.
Should the celebrity win the first round match they’ll earn a $5,000 donation to a charity of their choosing. If Moneymaker, Rousso or Greenstein win in the second round they’ll earn a $10,000 donation for their charity.
The show airs Sunday on FOX immediately following the 4 pm ET NFL game. Check your local listings.
