PokerStars Releases European Poker Tour, WCOOP Schedules

Two of the gleaming jewels in PokerStars’ crown of tournament series - one brick and mortar, one online - have just released schedules for their upcoming seasons.

John Duthie announced the first half of the schedule for Season Six of the European Poker Tour this week, and as usual the EPT is building on record success. For the first time in its history, the tour will not be kicking off in Barcelona, Spain. Instead, the tour will respond to the incredible growth of the Russian poker market by starting things off in Moscow, Russia.

The new EPT Russia Open opens Season Six on August 17th at the Radisson SAS in the Russian capital. Then the tour moves on to stops in Spain, the UK, Poland, new destination Portugal, and the Czech Republic before visiting the Bahamas for the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure, which has grown to become one of the single richest poker tournaments anywhere outside the WSOP. In his announcement releasing the schedule, Duthie promised that more new destinations in the second half of the season would be revealed soon.

In addition to bigger prize pools and more tournaments in more countries, the new EPT schedule will also feature more festival-style stops like the one in London which will feature a High Roller event and Omaha and 8-Game tournaments in addition the main event.

The other PokerStars schedule released this week was the tentative line-up for the 2009 World Championship of Online Poker. With 42 events and $40 million guaranteed on a schedule spanning the full spectrum of poker’s disciplines from hold’em and Omaha to Badugi and Deuce-to-Seven, this edition of the WCOOP will be the biggest ever. Players are encouraged to submit their feedback directly to PokerStars at wcoop@pokerstars.com.
