Power Rankings: Duhamel Back on Top, Failla Cracks Top Five

Failla already has six cashes this year

Just yesterday we reported that Jonathan Duhamel reclaimed the lead in the 2012 BLUFF Player of the Year race.  Well, now he is back on top in the BLUFF Power Rankings too.  Duhamel’s eighth place finish in the €2,000 No Limit Hold’em side event at EPT Deauville may have only netted him €13,000, but the points he earned in both the POY and Power Rankings races were more than enough to send him back to the top spot.

As a result of Duhamel’s rise to the top, the previous #1, Shawn Buchanan falls back to second in the ranks, while Jason Mercier held strong in third.  They better watch out though, as Will “The Thrill” Failla is coming on strong.  After falling to 12th in our last Power Rankings update, Failla soared back up the standings after a strong performance at the Borgata Winter Poker Open and final tabling a prelim event at the Seminole Hard Rock Lucky Hearts Poker Open.  So far, Failla has cashed six times in 2012, including a $165,000 win in a huge event at the Borgata Winter Poker Open.  As a result, Failla made the biggest jump of the week.

Failla was not the only player to see a hop in the ranks.  Roberto Romanello moved from 14th to 12th after final tabling a side event in Deauville.  The only other player to see their ranks go up were Steve O’Dwyer and Tom Marchese, who each moved up one spot.

This week also saw some players plummet down the ranks, most notably Marvin Rettenmaier and Sorel Mizzi.  After spending a good chunk of 2011 at or near the top of the ranks, Rettenmaier fell to 11th after his win in last year’s France Poker Finale Series went to half point value, along with a third place finish in the 2011 WPT Venice final table.

Mizzi met a similar fate after his 2010 scores no longer qualified towards his Power Rankings point total.  After being in the top ten for a good part of the past two years, Mizzi is barely hanging on in the top twenty in 18th place.

Here are the current top twenty in the BLUFF Power Rankings:
