Raj Patel Wins Foxwoods Poker Classic

Raj Patel won the World Poker Tour’s 2007 Foxwoods Poker Classic championship event last night, collecting over $1.2 million and a $25,000 seat to next month’s WPT Championship in Las Vegas.

Patel, a businessman in the hotel management field, had only played two tournament before signing up for the $10,000 buy-in event at Foxwoods, yet he started the final table with almost a third of the chips in play.

The pivitol hand of the final table came when the tournament was three-handed and Patel got his chips into the pot with A-8 against the pocket Aces of Antonio Cavezza. The dealer spread 8-8-7 across the table and Cavezza was eliminated on what Patel would later refer to as “a $1.3 million flop.”

When WPT blogger Gary Wise asked Patel how he planned to spend his newfound wealth, Patel replied, “I have 2 kids and a wife, they’ll probably do the job.”
