RISE Poker Enters the US Poker Landscape

Following April 15th, it was only a matter of time before new sites started stepping up to fill the void left by the closure of major sites like PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker. The new kid on the block making their big debut on May 31st is RISE Poker. The site is a rake-free poker site that is part-social gaming and part-subscription poker site.

The site will offer free memberships, as well as VIP membership that can be purchased for $19.99 per month. The launch of the site will include up to $100,000 in cash and prizes, including a seat in the upcoming WSOP Main Event. The site also plans to give out $100,000 in cash and prizes each month.

“The market could not be better for a new, innovative rake-free site to fill the massive
void created by the recent U.S. departures of the largest offshore online gambling sites.  We want to obliterate what the market thinks of a typical membership poker site,” says Steve “Chops” Preiss, RISE Poker Executive Vice President of Business Development. Preiss also asserts that the site is completely legal in the 48 states it is offered in under current US online gaming laws.

The site will be hosted on the ZEN Entertainment Network, which already includes skins with the UFC and WWE. RISE Poker will be available in 48 states as well as abroad.  The project teams up ZEN Entertainment, poker apparel company RISE Clothing, and poker talent agency, Poker Royalty

“The RISE Poker group is comprised of the preeminent minds in poker today. Working with them represents an exciting endeavor for ZEN. We are impressed with how RISE Poker is going about building its brand and a unique, player-centric approach to its customers. ZEN looks forward to providing best-of-breed, rake-free poker software to power RISE Poker,” says ZEN Entertainment CEO Craig Billings.

The site will also feature sponsored pros. The first batch of spokespeople for the site is set to be unveiled in a couple of weeks.

While it is unclear just yet which players will be representing the site, Preiss told BLUFF they are going to be names familiar to poker fans and will more than likely have previous ties to other online gaming sites.

“The reality is, there is hardly a professional player that has received TV exposure that hasn’t had a deal, even if it was a one-off,’ Preiss explains. “So yes, these pros will likely have had deals of some kind in the past.”

For now, the site will only feature No Limit Hold’em, however Preiss indicated that Omaha is the first of other games that will be added to the site’s offerings as it grows.

David W says:

yeah that’s rake-free. $19.95 per month to subscribe? more like they’ll be scooping with a shovel.

Noah Cross says:

The first baby steps in the US towards the return of online poker, along with a similar deal with WPT.

AlanOne says:

Rake free but $19.95 a month… would rather they take a rake like everywhere else. I hope you really get a lot for $20/month.

Read says:

if you guys read the 19.95 a month is for VIP membership, they have free memberships.. READ

wazy99 says:

does anyone know what their website addy is?? is there a download yet??

mike says:

Don’t kid yourself. In the US, this is illegal, too. Poker isn’t illegal across state lines, gambling is. This site facilitates such gambling, evidently, and wishing it were otherwise doesn’t change reality.

AlanOne says:

@Read… I read that… the point is why would someone pay $19.95 AND deposit their own money as well for VIP access? Until it releases, we won’t know the difference between a FREE membership and the 19.95 one. (or I haven’t seen yet) In marketing stuff like this, you know something major is missing from the FREE part. Is what’s going to be missing worth $19.95?

AlanOne says:

Oooops… $19.99/month for VIP access. What’s VIP access give you extra than a free membership? If it’s Fake $$$ and Freerolls to win a $dime… then it’s not worth it to me…

AlanOne says:

Damn… I need sleep… what I meant was I will stick to other sites if the FREE membership is only fake $$$ and small freerolls. If the VIP access includes access to this $100k monthly tourney without a buy-in fee, maybe the VIP membership is worth $20/month.

Steven says:

How is this different from ClubWPT?

Kwon says:

NOT WORTH IT. When will normal poker sites be available in the US again.

Revan says:

$20/month really isn’t that much for serious poker players. I used to pay /way/ more than that for rake. Sounds like a deal to me. The casual players will go for a free account, and if it’s worth subscribing to the $20/month service, we can subscribe.

A lot of us pay way more than that for poker magazines and game improvement sites anyway.

Steveysee says:

Yea id like to see their tourney schedule before committing to paying rake upfront as a 1 off cost per month, but the idea does sound good

i joined bluff’s poker club (part of this zen network)and am having major problems with button freeze, getting disconnected all at the wrong time. they really need to upgrade if they want excustomers of the sites lost from black friday. i like the people there, just can’t stand the program. i miss PS and UB, at least i could play in both those rooms and not get dunped when i just flop a set

Ralph says:

I have a few problems with this. First of all, the only game that’s being offered is NLHE, and later they’ll offer Omaha. That’s B.S. I miss P.S., and I get the feeling I’m going to miss them for a while. They can’t offer H.O.R.S.E., or at the least the individual HORSE games. Secondly, it’s been tried, and failed miserably. Remember Spade Club. How long ago did it go under? It’s a failed model, plus the software was extremely shaky to say the least. I’ll take my chances with what I’m doing now. Add $100 to a site, withdraw any profit, and if the site is seized, at the most I’ll lose $200. I can’t do the subscription poker model. I’d rather spend the money on books and travel to the casino.

stanley says:

This is the future of on-line poker. Subscription sites will be all US players will be able to play in the not too distant future. It is legal because you pay dues, something like paying dues to a private club. Members only.

Iron Man says:

Kind of feel that they are trying to establish themselves in the market to be able to have a first movers advantage once the US gaming market opens up…
Still this site targets only recreational players so I don’t see it taking off with the real poker players…

quasimodo says:

back again, just wanted to say that i downloaded rise poker, as it launched today, hoping for it to be a better download. what i got is the same thing with a different color table and same problems. got dropped and can’t reconnect to server. tried 5 times and been here twice in between. so if rise reads this, this customer is saying you’ve got alot of fixxing to do
